is a highly enjoyable spectacle. I really believe that he and his family thought he'd stroll to the nomination and the White House. Watching him sink and flail is deeply satisfying.

(8,760 posts)Democrats have been playing footsie with Republicans for too long. They have given Republicans a free pass on a whole range of issues, partially because some of them were participants in some of what has occurred.
Bernie is going to play Hardball.

(8,760 posts)My point is that watching him embarrass himself this badly, when so much money came in behind him and with father and brother as ex-Presidents, his humiliation is so complete that just as a human being I can imagine his pain.
One thing for sure.....and I don't know if his son George Prescott Bush knows it yet, but the dynasty is over.

(9,033 posts)that of course Bush would be the nominee--he had all the money and the name (oddly, she didn't think the name might be a minus as opposed to a plus).
I looked at her a little cross-eyed I guess (social function, and we'd never met) and she offered that people were just "tired" of Obama...I asked if that was because he was a Kenyan Muslim Socialist and she vehemently agreed. Exposure accomplished, I rolled my eyes and dropped it.

(4,113 posts)and all of the incompetence, lying and corruption that led to the biggest economic collapse since the Great Depression and two totally f***ed up wars--never happened. In fact, some of these goobers would argue that they're all Obama's fault.
This is what 25+ years of lies and distortions from Faux Snooze, RW talk shows and the rest of the lazy-ass news media have done to this country.

(814 posts)Their great grandfather Franklin Pearce(?) was a screw up too. He was a drunk but people can be functioning alcoholics. More than anything he was a hot mess. Nathaniel Hawthorne's piece may have got him elected but his conduct in office the first time saw the Republicans nominating someone else for a second term.
So I ask you, why did George W. Bush get the nom. for the second term given the epic failure he was for the first, lying about Iraq and the "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" et al. That embarrassment alone should've seen him barred from a second nomination. Instead the establishment Republicans say "Screw the good of the nation, we'll hold ranks and cover behind party". That conduct alone is disgusting and unconscionable.

(13,616 posts)as long as Jeb has money, he will be a threat. Even if Trump or Cruz picks him as a VP, he will be a threat.
Let me be blunt, whoever picks him as VP better have a medieval style food taster.

(2,419 posts)Jeb was the one the family wanted to be president.
W's incredible screw-ups eliminated his brother's chances.
I suspect that is the family dynamics of the situation. Remember, the father cried when discussing W's performance as president.

(4,835 posts)National elections, that is. Figured when they made the two of them (Dubya and Jeb) governors, they could get one of them to be president and really do some damage, but not both.
Jeb has to be operating without the machine that supported Dubya. His success certainly seems to support that theory.

One of the receptionists at the peds office where I work is a Republican. Not a RWNJ, and actually a very sweet person. Her family recently took a vacation, and I heard her telling someone that they had gone to the Bush library and it was "very inspirational." I had to bite my tongue not to say that the only thing the Bush presidency inspires in me is the need to puke.

(88 posts)I have been mildly horrified since their announcements, that a Bush AND a Clinton were vying for our highest office. Talk about 'power corrupting and absolute power'... If this were the case in UK, France, Sweden etc. can you imagine the scorn of our pundits and talking heads? Thank goodness, Bernie is openly talking about oligarchy. It's scary to think we no longer have a democracy - ask Jimmy Carter - but the way back is not by nominating, much less electing, a member of that oligarchy! That's why I will devote the last ounce of my ancient, feeble energy to promoting and working for Bernie.

(1,151 posts)The truth is that to the Republican in today's America, facts do not matter. What actually happened does not matter. Issues do not exist other than scary Muslims or mexicans. All jeb has to do is say how he would like to bomb Iran, Syria, Isis, France and build a wall and all Mooslims are bad and drill baby drill ,we know what works. Jeb knows what to say. He won't get with the program I don't know why. He is a stiff. That's why.

(22,380 posts)one of my joys in 2015 - and I have sorely needed some joy.
I am looking forward to the utter and final destruction of anything that remains positive about the entitlement the Bushes seems to feel is theirs. It was actually a surprise to find out the "smart one" is socially graceless, not very articulate, and as inept as the rest of them and not hiding any mental ability because it's not there to be hidden.

(1,727 posts)Jeb was "the smart one" for the past decade. He's just as inept as his brother when it comes to policy but much less likable and totally incapable of mounting an effective campaign.
Without his family name, Jeb couldn't get elected to his local school board.
