US Police Have Already Killed More People Since Christmas Than UK Cops Have Killed In The Last 5 Yrs

all of 2011, British police killed 2 people. In 2012, 1 person. In 2013, a total of 3 bullets left the barrels of British police guns, and no one was killed. In the last two years, a total of 4 people have lost their lives because of British cops, bringing the total number of citizens killed in the UK to 7 in the last 5 years.

Since Christmas, police in America have killed 14 people. In 1 week, American cops have killed twice as many people as the British police have killed since 2011!

But if we zoom out just a little further, those numbers become even more shocking. Since 1990, police officers in the United Kingdom have killed exactly 58 people.

Since the 14th of December, police in America have killed 60 citizens — It took English cops 25 years to do what American cops have done in the last two weeks of December.

On average, British police kill around two citizens a year. American cops kill more than that every day.

2. If guns weren't so common in America, then incidents of police shootings would be far less.

Just another reason that gun culture's time is coming to an end.

Tick tock tick tock...

3. You are completely correct

That cops here are more likely to shoot someone because felons are armed. We should take guns away from felons and make ownership of firearms by criminals a 10-year minimum in prison. However, the notion that the "gun culture" (whatever that is) is coming to an end isn't supported by any polling or public opinion.

5. Gun culture is responsible for arming criminals, terrorists, and the mentally unstable.

7. Did any of those guys

Shoot someone? I see 5 guys engaging in open carry (which I dislike) but assume they are acting legally. Instead of focusing on these guys, who don't appear to be breaking any laws, how about we focus on the felon misusing his/her weapon, and put that person in prison for a long, long time?

10. You're political efforts are doing far more to put guns on the streets than his are.

When will you take personal responsibility for tripling domestic firearms production and doubling firearms importation?

Your efforts to have the Democratic Party be the party of gun control (or gun prohibition) means that a) it's harder to get Democrats in elected office in the first damn place, and b) Democrats in the power results in INCREASED gun sales.

And stop bullying people that disagree with you.

And they'll keep right on doing it until we get rid of the culture that lets them get away with it.

12. just to answer my own question

UK recorded 653 homicides in 2011
US recorded 12,253 in 2013

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

UK averages 12.56 per week
US averages 235.6

Put another way, there are more homicides in the US in 14 weeks than there are in the UK in 5 years.

Yeah, it's the folice who are the problem.
Puck the folice!

13. Our murder rate is about 32 people per day, on average.

I guess it depends on how you define "criminal". The murder rate of England and Wales is, last time I checked, about a third of ours, and they have a quarter of our population. So they should be having... um, about 2.7 murders a day, if I'm doing my math right.

11. It seems all this less-lethal and non-lethal hardware we're buying the cops isn't working.

Like better helmets for football players, it seems to just be increasing the use of such devices because it's "non-lethal".

Until it isn't.
