Has it been reported on any MSM that 80 feet of fence was removed yesterday ???
I flipped through the channels and couldn't find anything.
I couldn't find anything when I used Google.
The only information I can find is on the website page of someone who filmed
them taking down the fence.
They used heavy equipment that was at the sanctuary.
They want to allow cows into the sanctuary to graze.
The are using the computers at the sanctuary and getting the personal
information on the people who work there.
They are following these people all over town.
They are parking in front of their houses.
I thought this would be front and center.
They usually follow every tiny move that right wingers make, but they seem
to be ignoring what these criminals are doing.
Some Republicans have come out in support of the Bundy's.
Some of the local police support the Bundy's.
How many more laws are these criminals going to break before this ends ???
P.S. I am in no way shape or form calling for violence. This could have been
handled in an intelligent way. It seems many are being allowed to aid and abet the
unlawful occupants.

(12,253 posts)The Militia knocked down the fence, not the cattle.

(2,149 posts)But I don't understand why these armed individuals are being allowed to leave the premises or have access to replenishments. Is there a perimeter set up?

(869 posts)The issue is simple: Janet Reno got a ton of flack for the fire at Waco and David Koresh. Ever since we have been extremely weak at enforcing the law against self-styled armed activists. The error in this is that Koresh had been heavily armed and was leading an anti-government standoff, and Reno tried to have the rule of law prevail. She should never have gotten flack for Koresh's murderous suicide.
The situation with Bundy is similar. Nobody wants to risk bloodshed, though he is provoking it. Government needs to see this for what it is - a standoff against the rule of law, and Government can't lose, fail, or seem weak.
My two cents...
Cassiopeia
(2,603 posts)but there's no effort to contain these fools.
I understand not storming the building under a hail of gunfire, but they can set up a perimeter and arrest anyone that tries to enter or exit the compound area. They can cut the power making life uncomfortable for these fools without firing a single shot.
I've gone on camping trips that are far less accommodating than this situation. it's just insane that absolutely nothing is being done. There's caution and then there's completely ignoring the situation.

(1,433 posts)At a minimum a perimeter controlling access and exits.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)Big perimeter.
Cassiopeia
(2,603 posts)Really? You think this tiny group occupies the entire refuge?
Surround the building within a safe distance. I'm betting a small perimeter at about a 1/4 mile from the central building would do it.

(57 posts)The WACO thing happened during George Herbert Walker Bush's administration.
Reno worked for Clinton. She was involved in saving the Cuban kid in Florida and returning him to his Dad.

The Federal Agents could have nabbed him outside and kept the others out of harm's way.

(135 posts)The solution is obvious and compelling: SIEGE!
Cut the phone lines. Cut the power. Close all access roads. No supplies.
Arrest any militia that exit the perimeter. No more visits to town.
Then wait them out. It's bone-chilling cold in eastern Oregon.
What the Hell are the Feds waiting for?

(13,878 posts)Locals and law enforcement are being followed home where unknown "protesters" sit in cars observing the targeted citizens movements in their homes. Citizens are also being followed by militia members as they move around the community. The Sheriff has suggested citizens take alternating routes when driving, for their own safety.

I've found it to be the best place to follow the news from Burns. They live-update all day and have several folks on the ground tweeting.

(21,607 posts)I was all for isolating them in the refuge and letting them sulk until they go home, but it sounds more and more like the are taking over the entire town and residents are being terrorized. how can this happen on our own soil??????????? If they want to freeze in the refuge fine but they should NOT be allowed on and off the property to intimidate people and resupply.
How hard would it be to pack a few drones full of a sleep inducing gas and smash them through the windows of the building. put them to sleep and let them wake up in jail.
Moostache
(9,897 posts)Quarantine their movements, allow egress but no re-entry and when they DO leave to avoid starving or freezing, arrest them and try them in a court of law. They don't like that? Go tell the native Americans your troubles and see how many fucks THEY give...

(4,642 posts)If there are local police that support them they should be fired on the spot. Every day the Feds let this drag out is another day they look weaker and the nutjobs look stronger. The feds have no problem taking down someone who can't fight back. I guess their true colors are showing.

(4,642 posts)need to get together with the Bundy terrorists and get rid of the mandatory minimums and laws that turn arson into a terrorist act. The Feds screwed up by forcing the Hammonds back to prison which just isn't right, don't care why they did it, they served their time. The Feds opened this can of worms and they don't know how to shut it down.

(45,319 posts)same. The Feds are in charge, the only entities that have spoken of accountability and charges to be filed are State and County people, the Feds say noting so far.
This is a county larger than Maryland with a population just over 7,000. California has more CHP officers than Harney County has residents.
Munificence
(493 posts)is pretty close the size of Hawaii. The Federal land there is about the size of the State of Massachusetts (75% of the county = Federal lands). I think I read somewhere (going off memory) that the County Sheriff (who handles all things in the entire county outside city limits) consists of a staff of either 6 or 7. 6 or 7 to patrol 10K square miles.

yellowcanine
(35,701 posts)the fence, as well as the identity theft and invasion of privacy of the grazing permit files. But we will see. Arrest warrants may have already been issued and the Feds are waiting for the right time to serve them. I seem to recall a similar frustration with the Elian Gonzolez custody battle with the "Miami relatives" - different because there was a minor who was essentially a hostage but there are parallels.

(4,695 posts)Ranchers may have houses in town too. Ranching cattle and prospecting or mining on a very small scale, may be a way of making a living in this geographic area or region. An Australian uranium mining company will be mining in the county next year.
Cattle must be fed and watered in the desert where fences get in the way. The area has lots of mineral waters (which might be undrinkable or poisonous to grasses), steam vents, crators and lots of crystals and minerals due to volcanism.
There must be a reason that the FBI is not moving in. I think it has to do with state and federal prospecting laws and regulations on private, public and federal property which may be at odds with one another. And the same goes for grazing and watering rights.
