Just learned that a good friend is a Sandy Hook truther

I don't know how to get through to this guy. I'm thoroughly disgusted and very close to ripping into him. Like really letting him have it. It's taking everything in me to stay cool. At the same time, I'm wondering if he might have an undiagnosed mental illness?

It's like finding out a dirty secret about him.

I reconsidered our relationship and distanced myself from the person, discreetly. I would avoid confronting him

I didn't want to provoke him I thought like you do: he may very well be mentally unstable.

Not the kind of guy you want around

If so, be calm and present your case. I helped steer a Rand Paul fan towards Bernie. Sometimes people buy into the first BS that sounds good to them when they are first entering the world of news/politics and don't ask enough questions or logically think it through. The earlier you catch them, the better.

They are convinced of a 'truth'. Nothing can change their mind and there's nothing you can do.

I read online where people believe that Shawna Cox (Malheur asswipe indictee) is actually Patty Hearst and the whole Occupation operation was staged by Obama to "take are gunzzz!"

Stupid people will believe anything, but if I were one of the parents whose kids were murdered at Sandy Hook, I'd be suing the hell out of some people.

These beliefs come from the same part of the mind that believes in gods or supernatural items.

My brothers are evangelical born-again Christians who believe the Earth is 6,000 old and believe that every word of the Bible is true.
We have little contact as they only seem interested in if I've yet accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior.

And I was living in her house at the time. I needed the place but during all of this the flight from Malayasia disappeared. Oh yeah, all I heard was 9/11, Sandy Hook and what happened to that plane.

I finally had to say I didn't give a shit about it and never wanted to hear about it again. She spent her days watching youtube and going down the vortex.

I don't hang out with her anymore.

What do they get out of their ignorance? How do they think such monumental tragedies could possibly be fabricated? I can't understand that mindset.
