Distraught star of viral Asperger’s video killed by police after friends report suicidal intentions

So sad...poor woman. I truly hope she is free from the shackles of her illness. Not that I condone the event of course, just watching some of her videos, her struggle looked unbearable and as a father who has raised 2 kids with their own issues, it tore at me. This just plain sucks.

An Arizona woman with Asperger’s syndrome was shot dead by Mesa police on Thursday, the Arizona Republic reports.

The woman has been identified as Danielle Jacobs, 24. Jacobs was suicidal and called two friends to come pick up her service dog. Those people called police, who in turn responded to the home and shot Jacobs.

“She stated she had a knife and was going to try and hurt herself,” a police spokesman told the Republic. “When officers approached the area inside the house where she was, she came at both officers with the knife and they fired their duty weapons and the female was injured.’

Jacobs was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her mother, Stacia, told the Daily News there are questions being raised as to why police had to shoot Jacobs.

“Before the police arrived she wasn’t posing a threat to the community at all,” Stacia told the Daily News. “And the police came into her own place. They shot and killed a 24-year-old autistic, mentally ill individual whom they had been familiar with and aware of her special needs.”

Darting someone will result in them stabbing you to death, having time to watch a couple of youtube videos, then fall asleep gradually.

Also, most beat cops don't have the medical knowledge and facilities required to dart a violent person with a knife who is feet away.

Kiling someone coming at you with a raised knife is not murder. Justifiable homicide.

It's been shown over the last couple of years that too many cops only know how to escalate situations and kill people.

We certainly need better trained cops or maybe even another organization to call with crisis-trained people who respond without their first inclination being to draw their gun and shoot, and with training with non-lethal submission weapons.

For the record, police could be trained to respond differently, but first we need major changes in how police think and internal culture.
