FLINT, MI Lt. Gov. Brian Calley pleaded for people to come visit Flint's restaurants despite the negativity surrounding the toxic lead levels in the water here.
Calley, along with officials from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and other local officials toured Blackstone's restaurant in downtown Flint.
"You have to see Flint," Calley told reporters on Friday, Feb. 5. "I beg you please come and take a look. Meet people here. Get a flavor for the types of creativity that's happening."
Restaurants and bar owners have complained through the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association that the increased costfrom having to use water filters, bottledwater and a loss in customers have hurt their bottom line.

It is indeed a mess, but I won't be putting Flint or Michigan in general on my list of places to travel and I believe an email to the Michigan Convention & Visitors Bureau might be in order.

(9,116 posts)And yes, there are museums.
However little there is to do in Flint, there's more to do there than in the surrounding area.

(78,249 posts)as Flint attempts to resurrect itself a la Detroit. Are the old GM buildings still standing? Maybe they could set up a replica assembly line and let people watch. And, of course, have tons and tons of antique cars, maybe even let people drive them.

(9,116 posts)There's not much of a skyline.
There are some tall buildings, all of them 1930's - 1950's Art Deco facades. It could be pretty.

(78,249 posts)But Mom grew up in Birmingham, so I can point it, Flint, Detroit and other places out on my right palm. I can also parse the sentence "Let's hit the coney island on M23, then stop by the party store on the way home."
