Republicans 'asked Iran to delay prisoner swap' until after US election

Treason if true.

Latest update : 2016-02-12
Members of the US Republican Party asked officials in Tehran to delay a January prisoner swap until after the 2016 presidential election, an Iranian admiral told FRANCE 24 on Thursday.

Iran released four US citizens being held in Iran on January 16, including Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian. In return the US said it was offering clemency to seven Iranians being held for sanctions violations and dropped charges against 14 more.

In his first interview with French media, Admiral Ali Shamkhani, who is secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, told FRANCE 24 that US Republicans – wary of allowing President Barack Obama to win a public relations victory ahead of the US presidential election in November – asked for the swap to be put on hold.

“We were carrying out negotiations with the Obama administration, when representatives of the Republican Party got in touch with us,” Shamkhani said. “As a favour, they asked us to do what we could to hinder the talks and to push them back until after the next US presidential elections – in other words, after President Obama's departure.”

“I felt that this rivalry at the heart of American power was inappropriate,” Shamkhani added.

But what's being alleged is a criminal conspiracy and treason of a very high order. I'm going to need more than the word of the Iranian military to believe it.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

Similarly, however, it's a serious charge that merits investigation. There were congressional hearings on the Iran hostage allegations. I would support the same here.

They are the law in the U.S.

That is why this country is so f**ked up.

They have complete control when they are in the minority.

They have complete control when they are in the majority.

It seems the Democratic party never has the mandate and sucks

at using the bully pulpit.

The spineless establishment Democratic party is either terrified

of the Republicans or they have the same agenda.

If they do anything wrong or illegal, president Obama will instruct

us all to look forward not backwards.

The corruption will not stop.

The underhanded tactics will not stop.

Their subversive tactics will not stop.

The Republican Party and the Tea Party sicken me.

The Democratic Party allowing this country to be overtaken

by evil imbeciles is unforgivable.

Specific allegations have been made that the Reagan/Bush Campaign Chairman William J. Casey [later head of the CIA] and then-Vice-Presidential candidate George H.W. Bush flew to Madrid and Paris for secret meetings with Iranian representatives.

After twelve years of mixed media attention, both houses of the U.S. Congress held separate inquiries and concluded that the allegations lacked supporting documentation.

Later, researchers found a document in the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library confirming that Casey had flown to Madrid for "unspecified reasons"--which both the Reagan and Bush administrations previously had vigorously denied. Rep. Lee Hamilton of Indiana, who headed both the House of Representatives and governmental inquires into the "October Surprise allegations, said that the document withheld by the Bush administration "could have changed" the committees' conclusions.[2]

Several individuals—most notably former Iranian President Abulhassan Banisadr,[3] former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, former Naval intelligence officer and National Security Council staff member Gary Sick; and former Reagan/Bush campaign and White House staffer Barbara Honegger—have stood by the allegation. Some contend that, as the allegations have been made by several people in a position to know (such as former Iranian President Bani Sadr, former National Security Council member Gary Sick, and former Reagan/Bush campaign and White House staffer Honneger], they are not a "conspiracy theory" but rather disputed factual allegations.

However all that actually went down, it always seemed like terribly odd timing that Reagan's inauguration magically inspired Iran to let our people go.
