(144 posts)My problem is that this feeds the anti government " let charity fix the countries problems". My take is if a rich guy has to pay for kids to go to collage we have already lost. Let's just make him pay his fair share of taxes instead of making him into a hero.

(153,182 posts)And I am not sure this guy will actually do it.
According to the article linked down thread he promised to do it with conditions and it doesn't sound like he actually created a fund or anything to do it just promised to do it and estimated what it will cost him in the future to fulfill the promise.
I hope I am reading the article wrong but if not it sounds pretty narcissistic to me rather than magnanimous.

(18,791 posts)I'm not too worried about a rush to "charity" for kids getting college...this is just one couple in America and I don't see the Koch Creeps giving one thin penny.
Good for them.

(367 posts)...It's pretty obvious that with Bernie's popularity only continuing to grow that a college education will likely already be covered!

..there are very progressive people that feel that charity by the super rich prevents and distracts from systemic change.
These kids shouldn't have to rely on the chance goodness, or whim, even, of a rich person.
It really is wonderful and this act will effect 100's of people, since every child here will have a changed life.
But we need free access to higher education for all our kids.
Please go see "Where To Invade Next" which shows so clearly how other countries are taking care of their young students. And how we aren't.
