Trumps harsh campaign rhetoric against Mexican immigrants has helped him win a substantial delegate lead in the Republican primary, but it is also mobilizing a different set of likely voters six of them alone in the family of Hortensia Villegas.
A legal immigrant from Mexico, Ms. Villegas is a mother of two who has been living in the United States for nearly a decade but never felt compelled to become a citizen. But as Mr. Trump has surged toward the Republican nomination, Ms. Villegas along with her sister, her parents and her husbands parents has joined a rush by many Latino immigrants to naturalize in time to vote in November.
I want to vote so Donald Trump wont win, said Ms. Villegas, 32, one of several hundred legal residents, mostly Mexicans, who crowded one recent Saturday into a Denver union hall. Volunteers helped them fill out applications for citizenship, which this year are taking about five months for federal officials to approve. He doesnt like us, she said.

(5,198 posts)1. I know white people that say they'd leave the country if Trump got in
he is one scary character. I think I would be looking into it myself.

The folks that say that are just as ridiculous as the ones that said they would leave the country if Obama was elected. I wonder how many actually left?

(3,261 posts)3. When I read things like this, I really almost start believing the conspiracy theory
about the Clintons and Trump conspiring. Anyone with half a brain who wants to win the presidency is not going to begin with the kind of over-the-top inflammatory rhetoric that puts winning the GE out of reach. The response from the Latino community is what even a novice politician could have anticipated. The Trump campaign has been 1000% aimed at winning the GOP primary. Now, it is certainly possibly that he is just that short-sighted and egotistical but one wonders....
