Ted Cruz took the easy way out with this one, he is playing to the prejudices of his base who deeply resent the “city slickers” (yes, really, that is a phrase used often in the South regarding people from big cities, and Ted Cruz smugly lobbed this insult at Donald Trump during a South Carolina debate).
It’s a wonder why Cruz can’t compete without falling back on ugly, divisive tactics. This is a serious problem for a candidate who presents himself as the son of a preacher who has divine abilities to unite the country.
Cruz keeps trying to sell himself to the GOP establishment as a better choice than Donald Trump, because he is a supposed uniter. Aside from the fact that Cruz is almost universally loathed by his own party colleagues, Cruz is trailing Trump in New York by wide margins. The smug disdain for Democrats and liberals because they champion rights for all citizens doesn’t play very well in a lot of places ...
