Colorado and Wyoming DUers - Heavy Spring Snow heading your way

https://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=3283
<snip>
Soon to be abandoned by the jet stream, a strong upper-level low will park near the Four Corners this weekend, pulling in a rich moisture feed from Texas to Nebraska that will dump near-record April rain on the High Plains and tree-challenging wet snow along the Colorado/Wyoming Front Range. The upper low will be marooned for several days near Colorado, which will prolong the precipitation event and lead to some truly impressive totals.

As of midday Friday, winter storm warnings encompassed most of the Colorado high country as well as the urban corridor from near Colorado Springs, CO, to Cheyenne, WY. Snowfall totals predicted by the NWS through Sunday range from 8” - 14” in Denver and 6" - 12” in Cheyenne to a whopping two to four feet in the mountains and foothills just west of Denver, including areas within a few miles of Boulder. The biggest impact may be on local trees, many of which are now flowering and leafing out. The heavy, protracted snowfall is likely to break countless limbs and bring down many power lines.
Streets and soil are quite warm around Denver after temperatures soared into the 70s on Thursday; between this and high-angle sunlight filtering through, there may be enough melting to keep snowfall on the ground and on highways well below the totals gleaned from snow measuring boards. Even so, a dense, slushy mess is like to impede travel thoughout the weekend.

I'm so achy I called in sick this morning. So far today I've taken tramadol, ibuprofen,and acetaminophen all of which have barely taken the edge off. Once it hits I'll be fine again. Go figure.

in lower Montana near YNP we had 8" over the past 30 hours, most of which has melt away already. It's wet, heavy, sloppy stuff. We're supposed to get some more tonight. And the wrens showed up two weeks ago and the bison are dropping their calves a month early. They used to calf in mid-late May and into June, the last three years they have been coming earlier each year.

Everything has been coming earlier each year, by weeks. Last summer the early orchids were nearly a month late while later blooming orchids were blooming several weeks early making both kinds bloom at the same time, which I thought was spooky to say the least.

The bears get up in early Feb. these days and many of the other migratory birds are here or passing through at odd times now.

But we have snow pack for at least a couple more weeks which will make down-river places less dry! We had 3ft up until it got really hot last weekend and it rained to boot. The 3ft got whittled down to about 12 inches in a hurry, and now more snow. We can get snow well into mid June sometimes. Last year we had several inches of snow in mid July and it stuck around for a few days. Watched it snow several times in June too.

Love the Rockies, you never know what the weather will bring from minute to minute. In fact, just heard a warning of funnel clouds spotted, have to go get a look at that and see if I need to hit the root cellar!

Later!

True! You never know what the weather will bring but I wouldn't live anywhere else. What elevation do you live at? We're only a little above 4K but the peaks around here have snow over about 5K on up. You're on the East side I assume? I sure don't miss the hail, wind and tornadoes but I'd still take it in a red hot heartbeat over flat land.

Yes this could be major winter storm/blizzard number 3 within the last 30 days. Lots more moisture which we can always use. Sure makes getting around nearly impossible for a few days, though.

Wyominites who didn't already know this are living under a rock and do not even have internet access. One would think this was about to be the storm of the century or something. Everyone mowed their lawns yesterday as if they will not get another chance for weeks! Stores were full. Newspaper headlines are screaming. News/weather feeds interrupt all regular television. Sheesh! It's called "Springtime in the Rockies"!

over here by the parks they come from everywhere. Encountered a couple today from AZ and they were freaking out about the snow, I got away and went home before I encountered more! The parks opened today, ugh... I plan to stay away all season.
