(7,515 posts)what good teachers are really worth we would attract better people into the profession. As it is, the bottom third of college grads go into teaching. We also need to get rid of some really stupid ideas...like kids learn to spell from circling words on a workbook page, and learn to write when they can barely read. Or that they can be taught to read using perfectly ridiculous "readers" with absurd stories that do not interest the children at all.

(4,340 posts)We need to put educators in charge of education. That goes for both state houses and school boards. Laypeople have no idea what they're talking about with regard to educating children.

(7,515 posts)It is so frustrating that we spend so much money on education...for stupid things like spelling workbooks (you'd would choke if you knew what school districts spend on disposables) and pay our teachers so little.
