17 year old arrested after forging Dr. notes to excuse absences

DUNCAN, S.C. (WSPA) – The Miss South Carolina Teen International 2015 was arrested for forgery on Monday, May 23, according to the Duncan Police Department.

17-year-old Madison Cox is charged with counterfeiting/forgery after writing several doctor’s notes to cover her absences from school, police say.

The notepad that was used to write the excuses came from Parris Family Chiropractic, but the notes were not genuine.

or are you okay with drug users forging a doctors name on a script as well?

A note pad was used and a DR. is no different than signing anyone else name.

a doctors script can get someone sudafed. and that is "quite real".

but hey, if you are okay with forgery and allowing people to gain access to prescription only drugs, you need to "get real".

Because what is at hand here is forgery.

but I can see that there is no convincing you otherwise.

so, as they say in the movies, we are done.

anyone can buy it. But, your point is true, that forging a doctor's note on their stationery is more problematic than a simple parental permission slip. But I also don't think this should be jail time for the young girl. The school should have handled it with a suspension and consequences there. (Though if the dr. pressed charges, that may be a different matter.)

that forging a doctor's signature isn't cool. In this case, the school should handle it. But, yeah, so many people could use this for bad things, so it shouldn't be allowed.

a chiropractor once told me he could get me pregnant through treatment. (I went because of back pain, and I was suffering infertility. He wanted to take x-rays, and I declined because I thought that was stupid for a chiropractor to do. But I felt guilty saying that, so I told him I was going through treatments to get pregnant, and I didn't think x-rays were wise in case I was pregnant. He responded to that with "I can get you pregnant." Um, dude, no! And I hightailed it out of there, forever. The end.)

Just crack my back.

Did this come as a result of the doctors office pushing charges for theft of the documents and forging under thier name, or from the school reporting it?

If the former, I understand it. A doctors office would have to report a theft and forgery on their letterhead and under their name if discovered.

If the latter then that's just another example of lazy and incompetent school officials calling the police to handle discipline matters that have no business being handled by police that administrators should be able to handle in the school.

I imagine you would be fine if she were sentenced to death.

If not, then why would you be "defending" her?

We're talking about cutting school here, not issuing a medical diagnosis.

NO doctor of any kind would put ANY medical diagnosis on a school absence excuse note.

It would be illegal for a doctor to do that.

Do you understand that, as a threshold proposition? No doctor, no chiropractor, and no nurse or other health professional would EVER put a student's medical diagnosis on a note to school excusing an absence.

This is "Please excuse Sally from class on (date)".

If anyone did see a note saying, "Please excuse Sally from class because she has to get VD treatment" you'd pretty much know you were looking at a fake note right there.

So, how many years in jail do you think she should get for it? Be specific.

She'll plea to the lowest possible charge, get 6 months probation, and when she turns 18 this incident will be sealed.. Lesson learned, she moves on...

I probably feel different about this because my father was a doctor, and there were instances where people forged his name for whatever reason...
