Trump Tells Ryan He SUPPORTS Cutting Social Security - But Will Lie About It To Get Elected

Last edited Sat May 28, 2016, 06:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Tells Voters On The Campaign Trail: 'I’m Going To Save Social Security'…
Tells Paul Ryan In Private That
He Supports Cutting It 'From A Moral Standpoint'...

Donald Trump supposedly told House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) he supports cutting Social Security but will not admit it publicly because it would hurt his election chances,
according to a report in Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee reportedly made the comments during a May 12 meeting with Ryan aimed at mending ties between the two top Republican leaders, Bloomberg reported, citing an unnamed source who was in the room. (Ryan has yet to endorse Trump.)

“From a moral standpoint, I believe in it,” Trump said of cutting Social Security. “But you also have to get elected. And there’s no way a Republican is going to beat a Democrat when the Republican is saying, ‘We’re going to cut your Social Security’ and the Democrat is saying, ‘We’re going to keep it and give you more.’?”

Trump’s professed opposition to cutting Social Security and Medicare has been both a hallmark of his campaign and one of his greatest departures from traditional conservative ideology. And Ryan, who repeatedly criticized Trump before the mogul effectively secured the GOP nomination, has made proposing dramatic reductions in the popular social insurance programs a defining feature of his congressional career.

He openly says he will lie to the people about it because he knows that the people are against it.

Preserve Social Security for decades to come by asking the wealthiest to contribute more. Social Security must continue to guarantee dignity in retirement for future generations. Hillary understands that there is no way to accomplish that goal without asking the highest-income Americans to pay more, including options to tax some of their income above the current Social Security cap, and taxing some of their income not currently taken into account by the Social Security system.

Some excerpts:

“I won't cut Social Security. ... I'll defend it, and I'll expand it.” -- HILLARY CLINTON, FEBRUARY 5, 2016

... As president, she would:
...

* Oppose reducing annual cost-of-living adjustments.

* Oppose Republican efforts to raise the retirement age—an unfair idea that will particularly hurt the seniors who have worked the hardest throughout their lives.

* Oppose closing the long-term shortfall on the backs of the middle class, whether through benefit cuts or tax increases.

... Expand Social Security for those who need it most and who are treated unfairly by the current system—including women who are widows and those who took significant time out of the paid workforce to take care of their children, aging parents, or ailing family members.

... Preserve Social Security for decades to come by asking the wealthiest to contribute more. Social Security must continue to guarantee dignity in retirement for future generations. Hillary understands that there is no way to accomplish that goal without asking the highest-income Americans to pay more, including options to tax some of their income above the current Social Security cap, and taxing some of their income not currently taken into account by the Social Security system.

he'll lie to Ryan to get the unified support of the Republican party

speaks for me.

Trump doesn't give a damn about anybody but Trump. Ryan has dumb ideas, but he holds to them and talks about them.
Trump isn't running for office to do something. He's running to be something, to aggrandize himself, to move product, the stop his daddy's voice in his head saying he's not good enough. He's a classic traumatized child of an alcoholic who transformed his existential self-doubts into a personality disorder--narcissism--in order to keep from having a full psychotic break. He's not capable of loyalty beyond his own narrow circle of ingratiating sycophants. Not loyal to ideas or to people he doesn't know personally.

Also, he's an entitled snotrag, but that's not a recognizeable mental disorder. Narcissism is and Trump's textbook.

Doesn't matter what Trump says yesterday or tweets the day before that...
...we'll get whiplash reacting to his BS and bait. Who knows what he'll say or do in the future. Lump him together with what all republican leaders and republican platform advocates and beat that argument to death every day: GOP and the 1% want to cut safety nets, get their grubby hands on the SS trust fund, destroy faith in government programs, therefore cut taxes for the wealthy, therefore reduce wages, therefore free up money for political contribuions, shuttle safety net money to private corporations and their lobbyists, etc.

Clinton should be talking about the big GOP picture....everyone will remember trickle down, privatized SS, GOP fed deficits, etc. Who cares what Trump tweets or says...it's just a distraction and camoflage for long term GOP policies that they really don't want the public to focus on. So focus on them. Don't react to every Trump midnight thought, but use them as excuse to drill down on horrendous history of GOP 'policy'.
