(466 posts)Does that mean that he will NEVER be able to compete in the Olympics? I read that article earlier, and it didn't appear clear.
Seemed like they were saying that since he wasn't a member of the organization at the time of his crime he didn't fall under their code of conduct. Or something like that.
As for Polansky, remember when Whoopi Goldberg said it wasn't "rape rape?" Celebrity status, I guess . . .

(466 posts)I know nothing about sports, but I thought someone who attained that level as a teenager could pretty much count on being a shoo-in for the Olympic team.
In any event, kicking him out of USA Swimming was good. Would be even better if he would never even be allowed to try out for the team.

(2,201 posts)While all.or most, Oympic swimmers are All Americans, most All Americans are not Oympians. The All Americans are just a pool of athletes that are considered for the Olympic team.

(1,033 posts)For the United States Olympic team, you must first qualify for the Olympic Trials. That requires a qualifying time. It has nothing whatsoever to do with being an All-American. There will be high school kids at this years Olympic trials.
Second, folks are confusing USA Swimming with the United States Olympic Team. Two completely different things - USA Swimming is the sanctioning body for competitive swimming for all ages, 6 - 106.
