Texas man uses 400ft plastic dam he found on the Internet to protect his house from record 27-inch floods - and it worked!
Randy Wagner of Rosharon, Texas, drove to Louisiana to buy an Aqua dam
He filled 400-foot tube with water to act as giant sandbag around his house
Despite odd looks from neighbors, it kept his house dry as families in the county faced mandatory evacuations
He paid $8300 for dam, a small price compared to cost of potential damage

(29,414 posts)Rosharon is along the Brazos River, which was at least nine feet above flood stage at its highest. He probably lives a good distance away from the river, because that damn appears to only give about three feet of protection. Still, it was enough

(29,414 posts)Rosharon is a rural community, and it looks like he's got a fair amount of land around him.
But, if it looks like you're going to flood, screw the HOA and save your home. It might even prove to them how screwed up they are as they lose everything on their first floor (or more.)

(14,449 posts)If I was having this owner's problem, I'd find something too and tell the HOA to stuff it. I mean it is serious business here with possibility of losing the entire house and all in it including possibly lives.
