The woman apparently made comments about the police killing blacks with no justification on facebook and and he threatened her and her child.
They investigated it and terminated him in less than 8 hours. No "paid" leave, etc. And started a criminal investigation.
What an idiot.
Glad they did not try to cover it up. Apparently he initially said his account was hacked but the police determined he was lying.
Good news about our local police I think
OVERLAND PARK A suburban Kansas City police officer has been fired after officials confirmed he made a Facebook post that appears to threaten a child.
Overland Park, Kansas, Police Chief Francis Donchez Jr. says the department began investigating after being notified of the post Friday morning.
He says the officer was terminated immediately after the department determined he had written the post.
The Kansas City Star reports the comments were made on the page of a woman who had posted a picture of a small child.
The post said: Well see how much her life matters soon. Better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found Hold her close tonight itll be the last time.
Donchez says information from the personnel probe has prompted a criminal investigation.

(17,600 posts)At the link in your OP, in the details it mentions the women's profile pic was fairly offensive, and her account has been deleted. You can see the profile pic in the screen shot in the article (and this officer's ill conceived response to it):
It's the pic on the response "Thanks lil mama". It's showing someone with a knife to a police officer's throat.
From the article (emphasis mine):
Good they fired him, but I think her choice of profile pic says something about her, too, and it isn't good.

Good endings all around.

(5,501 posts)A professional officer does not threaten to kill the first person that offended them. There are a lot of bad people out there. This cop seems like a ticking time bomb to be putting stuff like that.
Police officers really do need to put up with every type of person (unfortunately), which means that most people don't have what it takes to do the job. This guy definitely doesn't.

(17,600 posts)He failed it miserably and should NOT be a police officer.

(22,457 posts)post is as bad as his IMO. But he is a officer who should not resort to that.

(13,340 posts)My local Sheriff's office fired a deputy who was doscovered to frequent Stormfront (white nationalist website). No ifs, ands, or buts, he was out. Actively participating in hate speech may be protectied by the first amendment, but it does not guarantee you a spot in the Sherriff's department.

Next. Use the civil courts to make cities and counties pay for violations of Human rights. The cost will lead to crack downs on departments that violate rights

(10,495 posts)pass a law for special prosecutors in alleged police misconduct cases. The local DA's are dependant on the police for help in prosecuting their cases. They cannot be expected to be unbiased when investigating officers in the department that they work with everyday.
Cops need to know they are not above the law and will be prosecuted for their bad conduct. Our current system makes them above the law in most cases. If they know they have to answer for their crimes they will be better behaved.
