Republicans have plotted treason now

There's been a lot of talk around here lately about Republicans intentionally stalling progress and helping average Americans out in an attempt to keep Barack Obama from becoming a two-term president. For the longest time, I thought there was no way even the modern Republican Party could be that cynical, evil, and treasonous. Sure, they'd like to win the White House back and hold absurd positions, but surely they wouldn't intentionally keep Americans out of work so they could keep one guy out of his.

Well, over the couple months it has become blatantly obvious to me that the GOP has no plans on doing anything but hurting this economy so they can get their guy in the White House. This video explains a lot of the reasoning that finally won me over (what took so long?), but a lot of you have been discussing these things lately. Worth a watch anyway:

Frankly, this makes me angry. These are extremely tough times for pretty much everyone not on Wall Street. The fact that Republicans know this and are destroying any chance at progress just because they don't like the black guy with the funny name in the White House is just ridiculous. This type of stuff has not been seen since the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era.

A new PPP poll shows that 49% of Americans already believe that the GOP is delaying economic progress to hurt Obama, but that's not enough. We NEED to get the word out there about this stuff. Cable news and TV news aren't going to be doing this for us. They need the "Both sides suck, and this election is going to be really close!!!!!" narrative going to drive up ad revenue. This would destroy that narrative. Even most hardcore conservatives would probably find this unbelievable. Let's work to educate the American people about the Republicans' dangerous political game so that this country has a chance to move forward.

There are three main talking points that must be repeated over and over again: TrollBuster9090 Jun 2012 #2

But truth doesn't bring in enough viewers for the "news/entertainment" sector to profit from. And don't forget all the ads networks and local stations will get $$$$$ from.

We need to get money out of politics, period. As well as lobbyists.

OUT. All of them. OUT.

We all know the Republicans have stonewalled and filibustered, and broken filibuster records, but that's largely esoteric, 'parliamentary' stuff that the average voter will not appreciate. But THESE are the three talking points I think have traction, and need to be repeated time and time again until they resonate:

1. At the DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS last summer, the Republicans turned down FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS of SPENDING CUTS because they refused to accept ONE TRILLION in revenue enhancements. (btw-never use the term 'tax increases.' Use 'revenue enhancements. And that's what Obama was asking for. Revenue enhancements by closing loopholes, not raising rates.)

2. At the CNN GOP Debate, all the candidates indicated that they would turn down a deal involving $10 of spending cuts in exchange for $1 of tax increases.

3. Finally, and most importantly, Republicans voted AGAINST the PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY, which would have created jobs.

You have to repeat these talking points in this order, because the first two reinforce the fact that Republicans are OBSESSED with TAX CUTS to the point of mental illness. We all know it, but the first two points reinforce it. Then, in the third point we note that, despite being obsessed with tax cuts, they voted AGAINST them just to spite Obama, and prevent any job creation. Since when have Republicans been AGAINST TAX CUTS? Since they might help the economy, create jobs, and hence make Obama look good. They used all kinds of excuses about it being a 'temporary gimmik' (or at least that was the best talking point they came up with), but the GOP talking heads were really having trouble defending it.

To the average voter, the fact that REPUBLICANS actually voted AGAINST TAX CUTS is obvious proof that they're deliberately sabotaging any chance of an economic recovery before the next election. Putting party politics before country. THIS NEEDS TO BE REPEATED.
