What television shows do you watch for news and information?

Do you only watch those shows with people whom you agree? Do you think they will tell you everything you need to know? Is it possible that they may skip important information, simply because of time constraints?

Does anyone watch shows with opposing view points, which is usually the majority of shows on TV? Do you form your own opinions from what you see? Do you form arguments to counter the claims of the opposition?

Is it important to know that the majority of people are watching something different from you? Why would you not want to know what the majority are watching? Do you believe Rachel Maddow or Martin Bashir or Big Ed will give you all the information you need?

Why do we vilify others for trying to stay informed? Do you think the people you watch do not watch the opposing viewpoints?

"infotainment" is the more appropriate term, which I don't see the point of.

I don't watch anything else; I don't have a teevee and no patience for the blasted thing. That, by the way, is due to a head injury; the one thing that has never gone away is the troublesome problem of being able to differentiate between background and foreground noise. Can't hear a darn thing in a mall, for instance. Drives me nuts.

The rest of my news comes from online sources; Ha'aretz, der Speigel, Asia Times, BBC, CBC, the Nation, Mother Jones, Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, Lebanon Star, the Guardian, New York Times, International Times, etc.

I don't see what business it is of mine what anyone else watches or reads; I do, however, take exception to places like World Nut Daily and some of the more right wing stuff, for instance Fox. If you're going to use them as authorities in any argument, don't.

and online sources and newspapers only report on what has already been on television. However, we get their record as a secondary source, rather than seeing it firsthand for ourselves. Which is preferable is up to the individual, I suppose?

I may watch CNN on elections nights for results because they will have both sides represented in the commentary.

I listen mostly to NPR or use the internet.

Last night I did watch some MSNBC because I hear a lot of people talk about some of the show.

Is it important to know what information they are receiving as "news"? Why?

I do not watch politically slanted news. That is comedy fodder to me and it drives my whife nuts when I comment on the "reporters" bias.

Who, What, Where, When, Why and How...that is all you need for news.
for entertainment, I want it free of politics, and "social messages" I want entertainment not another "very Special Episode of Blossom"

I read multiple news sources, local, state and nation-wide reporting agencies. I use Raw Story, Talking points memo, Truthout, Rolling stone, Politicususa, Huffington Post among others. I listen to talk radio AM1090 in the Seattle area. WhenI lived in Republican central washington, I listened to right-wing radio exclusively because there was NO progressive radio. Until satellite radio!

I live among the conservatives, I suffer under the conservatives. I do not need to continue listen to them to confirm my vehement opposition to their belief-system.

"As the DU turns"

Funny thing is, if you look at the ratings, it seems like the vast majority of America is watching "none of the above"

There are far more people watching NCIS or 2.5 men than there are watching either BillO or LarryO or Brian Williams, and even those numbers are a huge minority of the population. For example, 13 million people watched America's got talent, and 10 million watched NCIS. That's 23 million. I think that is people too, and not households. Even if it was households and the average household was 4 people (except I think the average 4 person household probably has 2 TVs), that would be 92 million people - in a nation of over 300 million people. Take away 50 million for the under age 5 and over age 90 and that leaves 250 million people.

Meaning that there are at least 160 million people (if not 227 million people) doing something else besides watching the top two shows on Tuesday night.
