Not the soaring flights of rhetoric of an Obama, but a masterfully sincere speaker.
Frankly, better than Hills. We all know it. She's just less at ease in front of a crowd.
HE IS THE PERFECT COMPLEMENT TO HER. They will make a kick-ass combo.
So happy with her choice.

(46,179 posts)I'm listening right now to a bunch of delegates not being allowed into the room where the rules committee is working.
The delegates being interviewed, heard over very loud, chanting protests, are clearly split. Every Sanders delegate interviewed so far says Kaine is a disaster. Every Clinton supporter interviewed says Kaine is great.
It's clear that, at least for the delegates in that hallway, unity has not yet been achieved.
Except in the case of Trump; there IS unity on the need to defeat him.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)This is the ticket. Point, finale.
A Trump defeat is only going to come through this ticket. No do-overs.
And, just in passing, they couldn't be more wrong. NO DISASTER, this guy.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)They are delegates to the convention, not allowed into the room. Some Clinton delegates out there, too, because the room is too small, and they didn't choose to go with one of the empty convention rooms upstairs that would hold them all.
I am simply telling you what I'm watching, and you are simply proving what I'm saying about the division over Kaine.

(51,378 posts)Those delegates need to watch that speech.

LWolf
(46,179 posts)First of all, it's not speeches, but position and record, that determine whether or not a candidate gets approval for many of us, and I sure as hell hope for delegates.
Second, that's exactly what that particular word, "disaster," was based on. Not on talk, but walk.
SunSeeker
(51,378 posts)Plus the way he delivered it, the whole package.

(11,573 posts)Something interesting--his accent is better when he's speaking Spanish extemporaneously than when he's reading a prepared speech. The fire comes through.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)apparently his history and record don't resonate with many. I suppose it could be accurate to say that the party is not unified on the issues.
Again, as I pointed out somewhere today, while Democrats are unified in the need to defeat Trump, there is no unity at this point when it comes to perception of Tim Kaine.

(46,179 posts)It's very unlikely that I will hear the things that would make me "happy," but he could, if she'd let him. It would mean reversing himself on several issues, though.
For the record: I'm not "unhappy" with him, even if I don't much like him. It's not like he's going to effect much change as VP. There are only 2 things that could happen that would leave me "unhappy" about Kaine.
First, should HRC win in November, something bad could happen while she's in office, putting Kaine in charge. That would make me unhappy.
Second, should HRC make it through two terms, a bunch of people might think he was the next nominee to be crowned. That would make me unhappy.
For the rest? I'm neutral. I expected a neo-liberal pick. As long as he doesn't affect policy, and as long as he isn't elected to an office that does affect policy when he's done with Clinton, I've got no problem with him.

(83,355 posts)He has the position and he has the record. You didn't bother to listen. We await your approval after you truly listen to the words.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)in this case E. Warren or S. Brown for VP.
Will they vote for the ticket even though they didn't get their way? Remains to be seen.
If not, then we can only qualify them as "Bernie or Bust".
Cornell West? Nina Turner? Who can say...
In any case, everyone else is moving on.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)Bernie supporters opposing Warren for VP, and I haven't heard anything at all about Brown.

(90 posts)It's fascinating to watch this process play out before my eyes. When I was somewhat where you are, we didn't have Usenet groups providing blow-by-blow reports on events as they unfold.
I am reassured by your positive attitudes and your obvious sincere desire to find the common ground upon which we all must stand. This is our first, best, and only chance for a generation to return government of, by, and for us people to its rightful role as protector of the weak against the strong. Please bear this in mind in your deliberations.

Now that it's down to the short strokes, I'm happy just to see you keeping civil tongues in your heads. You're not insulting or mischaracterising each other. And you're not the only ones.
