Romney staff disrespectful to hosts, cafe owner said (video)

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/06/13/kptm-romney-staff-disrespectful-to-hosts-cafe-owner-said/

The owner of an Iowa cafe which Mitt Romney visited on Friday say the Republican presidential candidate's staff were "arrogant" and disrespectful to her establishment, CNN affiliate KPTM reported.

Romney called owner Dianne Bauer of the Council Bluffs Main Street Cafe to offer an apology, the report said.

A Romney campaign source told CNN they had "assured the Bauers that the campaign would take responsibility for any remaining issues."

Her heirlooms were carelessly broken and tossed aside, tablecloths wadded up and thrown away to improve the photo op and she lost nearly a full workday. To add insult to injury she was never allowed to talk with Mitt. His response was to call her up, mock her complaint and offer snide "non apology" apology for the whole affair.

She recounted these things and said "it was almost like Obama was here".

Yes, Obama would have done all those things and then taken a little extra time to burn the place down on his way out just because he's . . . Obama.

I think she's voting for Romney. I can't explain why but I think she will.

If one were generous, you could say he blanked on the word "donut", but given his track record of cluelessness when relating to us mere mortals, you have to wonder if he just doesn't know, that he never connected the word to that particular form of pastry. (and assuming he's heard the word.)

Cafe Owner After Hosting Romney Event: "I felt like it was a mocking"

snip>

She was complaining about the event to a friend when reporters overheard her and posted about it online.

That's when Romney called Bauer himself. She says he explained that it was just a misunderstanding that she did not get to meet him, but the phone call didn't smooth things over for her.

"He responded 'well, I'm sorry your table cloths got ripped off, wadded up and thrown in the back room' and I took it as mocking," she said. "We're the ones he's wanting to get the votes from, you'd think we would have been treated better."

She says the whole experience left her wondering. "With how he treated me, is that how he's going to treat others? You know, if he gets in office is he going to be that way to us little people?"

snip>

This seems to me the most egregious story yet of his personal disconnect from his fellow citizens.

54. I think the "as if Obama were here" comment...
Thu Jun 14, 2012, 09:05 PM

was intended as, Rmoney's Secret Service detail and staffers were (it sounds like from what the cafe owner's saying) very restrictive, and indeed kept her in the back of the cafe, unable to meet the Shittster.
Also it sounded like restrooms were closed off/guests not allowed to use the bathrooms....

So maybe she means -- It was a Big Production ...as if the President were there. But having seen Obama's photo opps, it looks like he's laid back at all of them, relates to the owner of the joint, and any people there, and his detail doesn't seem to piss off the locals. Even Bu$h, in a clip from Fahrenheit 911, actually has his arm around the owner of a restaurant, saying: "I'd comment about (the war) that, but we really want to take someone's order! Stretch, what'll you have?!" Rmoney is just completely detached. Doesn't know basic human decorum or interaction.

The real killer is that he looked at the cafe's chocolate "pastry things" (yeah he didn't even know they were called chocolate doughnuts) and the MOST 1%'er/out of touch thing he said (to a worker in the cafe, I guess) was "Could you see to it that some of those chocolatey things get into our ride?", as if the cafe should load them into his vehicle for him-- as in, **Servant, see to it that the food is loaded in the car.**

At least Obama or Perry- maybe even Bu$h (although diddy didn't know what a bar code reader was in the grocery store) would have pulled out their wallet, ordered a couple chocolate doughnuts, asked to have them to-go, said thanks so much, photo opp with the owner, and left. Rmoney's just Totally Inept.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes. The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their own abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority.

- It's even more pronounced in those who likewise have a predisposition for ''other'' biases as well.....

Fri Jun 15, 2012, 11:20 AM
Jun 2012
Cognitive dissonance is a discomfort caused by holding conflicting cognitions (e.g., ideas, beliefs, values, emotional reactions) simultaneously. In a state of dissonance, people may feel surprise, dread, guilt, anger, or embarrassment. The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions, adding new ones to create a consistent belief system, or alternatively by reducing the importance of any one of the dissonant elements.[1] An example of this would be the conflict between wanting to smoke and knowing that smoking is unhealthy; a person may try to change their feelings about the odds that they will actually suffer the consequences, or they might add the consonant element that the smoking is worth short term benefits. A general view of cognitive dissonance is when one is biased towards a certain decision even though other factors favour an alternative.

The phrase was coined by Leon Festinger in his 1956 book When Prophecy Fails, which chronicled the followers of a UFO cult as reality clashed with their fervent belief in an impending apocalypse . . . .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance

************************

Question: What Is Cognitive Dissonance?

Answer:

People tend to seek consistency in their beliefs and perceptions. So what happens when one of our beliefs conflicts with another previously held belief? The term cognitive dissonance is used to describe the feeling of discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs. When there is a discrepancy between beliefs and behaviors, something must change in order to eliminate or reduce the dissonance.

Romney is not going to be good with the "little people." His true colors are showing here.

Romney personally (over the phone) offended this lady. This workaday, all American, small town cafe-running lady felt she was mocked.

"He (Romney) responded, 'Well I'm sorry that your tablecloth got ripped off, wadded up, and thrown in the back room,' and I took it as a mocking."

"We're the ones that are…he's wanting to get the votes from. You'd think we would have been treated a little bit better."

"With how he treated me, is that how he is going to treat others? You know, is he—if he gets in office—is he gonna be that way to us little people?"

Those quotes are priceless. I guess she's lucky Romney didn't have his staff tackle her so he could cut her hair.
