Benedict Donald: Who Hasn't He Betrayed?

1. The Defunct Trump University Was an Education in Fleecing Students

by Mark Karlin

A few years back, taking advantage of his brand identity and the emergence of for-profit educational corporations, the current leading GOP presidential candidate established Trump University. Donald Trump announced the "academic" venture, which offered no degrees or transferable credits, with his usual bombastic flourish at a news conference in 2005.

However, the unaccredited "university" became increasingly tainted by charges of fraud, profiteering, and courses that were allegedly often just high-pitch sales session for other Trump University and Trump organization products. The attorney general of New York, Eric Schneiderman - who called Trump University a scam - filed a lawsuit against Trump and The Trump Organization in 2013, according to an article last year in The Washington Post:

The cases against Trump and his company have continued to move through the courts. Students, who paid up to $60,000 for attending Trump University - which changed its name to the The Trump Entrepreneur Initiative in 2010 - have come out in droves to accuse Trump and his educational division of fraudulent practices.

2. Billionaire Trump Fleeces Workers, Small Businesses

by Leo Gerard

Using rape-and-pillage corporate practices favored by Wall Street, Donald Trump made himself billions while swindling and bankrupting untold numbers of hourly workers and small businesses.

In recounting his “deal-making” experience, Trump says the important thing is that he made a buck, that he came out rich. He ignores the father of five who lost his business when a Trump casino didn’t pay for cabinets. He discounts the minimum wage workers that a Trump resort cheated out of hundreds of dollars of overtime.

--snip--

Beth Rosser’s father was among those unpaid contractors. His company, Triad Building Supplies, nearly collapsed when the Trump Taj Mahal went into bankruptcy. He waited three years for what Trump owed him and then got only 30 cents on the dollar. “Trump crawled his way to the top on the back of little guys, one of them being my father,” Rosser told the New York Times. “He had no regard for the thousands of men and women who worked on these projects,” she said.

Her father’s company was one of 253 subcontractors that performed work like installing walls, plumbing and lighting at the Taj Mahal, mom and pop shops that Trump failed to pay $69.5 million, according to an audit in casino commission records.

3. Trump Encourages Russia to Conduct Cyberespionage Against US

by Robert Schlesinger

This is nuts: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wants Russian intelligence not only to hack his political opponent but to find what he presumes to be top secret information.

This is so beyond the pale, so outside both political and national security norms that it's hard to wrap one's mind around it.

"Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing," Trump said in a genuinely bizarre hour-long press conference today. "I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press!"

--snip--

Stop and think about that for a moment: One of the two people who will become the next president is encouraging foreign espionage against this country.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is undermining America’s values with his campaign rhetoric and is unprepared to be commander-in-chief, President Barack Obama said during an interview that aired on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday morning.

“If we start engaging in the kinds of proposals that we’ve heard from Mr. Trump or some of his surrogates like (former Republican House Speaker Newt) Gingrich where we start suggesting that we would apply religious tests to who could come in here, that we are screening Muslim Americans differently than we would others, then we are betraying that very thing that makes America exceptional,” Obama said.

Trump said he stood by his proposed ban on Muslim immigration in an interview on “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, saying the seemingly tempered remarks he made on the matter during his convention address were actually “an expansion.”

Obama directed particular contempt at Trump’s statements that he would not defend Baltic NATO states if they were attacked by Russia.

When they find an issue, they never let go.

They are tenacious. They've kept up the Benghazi attack for FOUR years.

We now have a firestorm of an issue. A presidential candidate has sanctioned espionage by a foreign power! So are we going to be as tenacious and keep this story alive the way they have with Benghazi?

investigation revealed nothing!!!

Have to admit they are tireless in their negativity. Maybe that's it. We just don't have negative energy to that degree.

we need to be relentless

Donald Trump has BETRAYED his country. He has called on a foreign power, an adversary, to conduct espionage. He is UNFIT. He has DISQUALIFIED himself.

This should be the line of attack from every Democrat -- every officeholder, every surrogate, every commentator -- every day from now until November. And from us here at DU.

Anything less makes us derelict.
