McConnell and Ryan do not want to be in the position of having to defend that orange ass.

They'd rather play the "fight against" game. Sometimes, when your candidate is a fucking idiot, like Trump is, the better position is as a member of the loyal opposition.

The word "loyal" in describing the GOP opposition. The Republicans in Congress have been pretty clear in their willingness to damage the country to achieve their political ends.

They aren't going to call themselves the "disloyal opposition."

They think we're the assholes, so they will regard themselves as "loyal" to the constructs of our system, even if they are obstructionist assholes.

If they take a drubbing at the polls, both in the executive branch contest and the legislative ones (GOTV!!!!! Push those downticket contests!!!!!!!!!!) then they will be cowed.

It's what needs to happen. They are either going to have to reinvent themselves completely, or follow the Whigs into oblivion.

The embittered nation will be the very right wing of the republican party which is nowhere near the 40 or so percent people think it is. I live in the most red state in the country. We obviously know a lot of Republicans. The majority of the ones we know acknowledge that their party has lost their minds and that Hillary is the best choice.

They don't like it, but they tell us that she is more than ready to run the country. They don't believe in her policies but they plan to vote for her. Now, there are the nuts, like the Trumper next door but we have some of those types in our party as well.

Maybe I am being optimistic but I think if we get the Senate, and things get done it may not be as bad as it has been with President Obama, I think they hate the Black man in the white house so much they will be glad to have anyone white in there. Not saying that is right because it is NOT, just making an observation of the nuts on the other side. I try not to analyze them since they are so crazy you would need lots of letters after your name to do it.

We've had Obama, and now we'll have Clinton. If we get (Fill in name of D) in 2024, then we'll have reason to hand out the shovels to bury the GOP.

When an incumbent does not win a 2nd term, it's evidence of grave dissatisfaction. It's very difficult to shift them.

They're a dying breed. My father in law succumbed in 2012 after Obama's re-election. Most of his buddies will go when Hillary takes the oath. Not wishing death on anyone, these are all people well into their 80's and 90's who rail on and on about the "lazy takers" in America, while they continue to collect SS years after they've recouped everything they've paid in. I have no problem with that, but STFU about the working poor who are contributing to your well being.

Not all Republicans want their sons and daughters in the military exposed to the kind of danger Trump's Marvel Avengers fantasies would get us into. Not all Republicans are willing to risk an out-of-control budget that could make their net worth loss of 2008 seem like a misplaced dime. Not all Republicans want to see the kind of governmental chaos that will lead to a dysfunction that would cause a voter backlash favoring Democrats the likes of which they would REALLY need a generation to recover from.

There are plenty of Republicans out there who hope that a Hillary victory would bring their party rank and file back to (what they see as) their senses. This does NOT mean they have suddenly all become benevolent. George Will and David Brooks do NOT wish us well. But they know that Trump and his pals don't wish THEM well, so they are resigned to a Hillary victory. Die-hard Sanders supporters do not have a monopoly on the "lesser of two evils" outlook on this election.
