(36,440 posts)a Southern California surfer/garage band with one Hell of a 'One-hit-wonder'. Minneapolis, who knew?

(286 posts)Didn't matter if you were from a land locked state or never surfed. Gotta just dig the rock. If you are interested, MN had a great rock history - check out this CD https://www.amazon.com/Big-Hits-Mid-America-Records-1963-1967/dp/B00000AE7L

(36,440 posts)"My hero as I became older was the great Leo Fender because he made one of the first guitars to hold up in a bar fight." - Charlie Deal

Both Charlie Deal and the 2 A.M. Club went platinum last week in a manner of speaking. Huey Lewis, the homegrown musician made good, dropped by the 2 A.M. last week to announce that his latest album "Sports," has earned platinum status (that's 1 million units sold). The album cover was shot at the club's bar and prominently in view on the wall behind Huey Lewis and the News is a Charlie Deal toilet seat guitar. Charlie has vowed that he'll make no changes in his lifestyle even though more than a million homes now contain a picture of one of his masterpieces.

Charlie Deal was from Minnesota and appeared in my hometown in 1959. It took us a few years to figure why the odd duck rode around town on his bicycle with a toilet seat around his neck.

(36,440 posts)That's Dwight Clark catching an earlier pass on a most memorable day when he caught "The Catch". Back in the day, Clark and Montana were Da Bomb.

(36,440 posts)after all, the title of the album was Sports. Goose, the owner of the 'Duce', was a busted down AAA pitcher and was hoping for a baseball theme.
