But here is where Kaepernick lost me: His remarks to the press segued into a rant of the type you hear from the conservative right. He said: "I mean, you have Hillary who's called black teens or black kids super predators. You have Donald Trump who's openly racist. I mean, we have a presidential candidate [Hillary Clinton] who's deleted emails and done things illegally and is a presidential candidate. That doesn't make sense to me, because if that was any other person, you'd be in prison."

(58,785 posts)onto the BLM people, Stellar. That would be unjust to most of them. No doubt some are conservatives, and even -- gasp! -- social conservatives (something that does often open people to accusations of being morons and a lot more around here), but to claim they might all suffer from the kind of unfortunate limitations suggested by some of his comments would be unjust.
Btw, I was declining to stand for the national anthem or say the pledge on command long before this guy was born. I admire him for taking very different stands as a citizen. I just very much do not admire everything that has come out of his mouth when he does. Statements full of hostile, biased intolerance and moronic levels of willful ignorance are just that, no matter the speaker.

(42 posts)Look, either this guy has something to contribute to the political dialogue or he doesn't. You can't insist that he be taken seriously as a political voice when he's staging a silly, one-man "protest" & then excuse his stupid comments by pointing out that he's just a football player. Maybe we shouldn't take his "protest" seriously because he's just a football player, too.

In a speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday, Scott shared that when he comes to Washington, he's sometimes felt more like a suspect than a member of the nation's most exclusive club. He said he's been stopped by police seven times in one year.

(10,499 posts)I saw an interview with him, and his a-mom, where he described how she said that the 1st mom was saying things that were untrue. But all she was talking about was her feelings. The adoptive family didn't want to hear that. They want to hear a constant narrative about how adoption is win-win.
Heidi Russo shouldn't have commented on this matter. But I understand how she went down that road. Colin made it clear that there was no hope that she would ever even meet him. That often creates a bizarre dynamic where the first mother develops an entire fantasy relationship with their child that exists in an alternate universe they daydream about. And that can play out in very strange ways, especially when some sort of "contact" is possible, due to the celebrity factor.
KMOD
(7,906 posts)Here's a link that I had read,

LeftyMom
(49,212 posts)Whatever your feelings are about adoption generally or her in particular his wishes should be respected.
Additionally using nomenclature like "first mother" versus "a-mom" to insist upon a framing of his family that he doesn't want is disrespectful of his wishes. He's been entirely clear on the point: he has one mother and one set of siblings.
StevieM
(10,499 posts)Period. He doesn't get to debate that. Because she was his mother at one point.
As for calling his adoptive mother his a-mom, I think it is perfectly legitimate to identify the type parent she is, like we would a step father raising a child.

(7,820 posts)A child given up for adoption who chooses not to persue a relationship with his/her birth parent has every right to choose to not want them back in their lives. Especially when the birth parent suddenly shows interest after the child has made good.
Totally personal choice, but he doesn't owe her a place in his life. It does not make him an asshole, and really his relationship or lack thereof with her is none of the rest of ours business.

(36,214 posts)Report: Colin Kaepernick may dedicate life to social activism if cut by 49ers
Colin Kaepernick could be released by the San Francisco 49ers before Week 1 of the regular season. If that happens, the quarterback may be prepared to give up his NFL career.
Several NFL team executives told Bleacher Reports Mike Freeman that they believe it is only a matter of time before the Niners release Kaepernick due to external pressure. The belief is that the team will wait a short while to allow the fallout from Kaepernicks national anthem protest to settle before cutting him.
Perhaps more interesting, sources close to Kaepernick told Freeman Kaepernick fully expected the 49ers to release him after the public became aware he was refusing to stand for the national anthem. And if Kaepernick ends up getting blacklisted by the rest of the league, he is reportedly prepared to dedicate his life to social activism.
Kaepernick obviously feels very strongly about fighting for social equality. He has already said he will continue to sit during the national anthem until he sees change, and who knows when that could come. When you consider the way some league executives ripped him to shreds, you have to wonder if Kaepernicks NFL career is close to reaching its end.

He's smart, but I don't think he pays enough attention to politics in general. If he did, he wouldn't be calling for HC to be thrown in the slammer (after the FBI cleared her) or falling for the controversy over her "super predator" comment that was taken out of context. He has also expressed dislike towards Trump, so I doubt that he's a RWer like other posters think he is. He might just be unhappy with the whole system.
