(2,107 posts)Welcome new member,
In answer to you, I'm guessing this will probably be deemed acceptable:
After the end of the primary, after some exasperating flame wars between Bernie and Hillary supporters, the rules were changed. It's far more likely now that anything not entirely in agreement with the "Party Line" will be deleted. Anything critical of HRC, or critical of anything any other sitting Democrat or Democratic candidate says or does is likely to be taken down immediately. That's a problem for me, but evidently not for younger Democrats who love "safe spaces."
I'm old, and am concerned about the decline of free speech and younger generations not getting tough enough through engagement with competing views. I didn't experience a "safe space" at any point of my life as a Democrat in a sea of Republicans. I learned to say what I thought and defend it. The arguments I see here now are basically about semantics and nuances between posters who almost completely agree. Faced with an opponent coming from a completely different place, the emerging impulse is to bail, to swipe left, to block, etc., instead of staying and fighting. A little battle makes you a better Democrat, IMO.
So, that's my post-middle-aged rant of the day.

Funny, but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me (the one who loves me)
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out (talk it out)
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around (hangin' around)
Nothin' to do but frown

1) insults, and suggestions that "you're wrong!!1!"
2) rote replies to repetitive topics we've all seen 100 times before
3) thinly-veiled troll accusations
4) agreement that yes, that is indeed the cutest kitten on the planet.
If you aren't getting these replies, it means that
1) you're not disliked, and what you said may in fact have been correct
2) you're not posting on redundant topics
3) no one thinks you're a troll (congratulations!)
4) you're not posting enough kitten pictures.

(865 posts)as posting when people are available to log on makes it likelier to be seen on list of latest threads, it seems ... but then that could mean the post goes out during a busy burst f posts, making it easier to be overlooked.
Anyway, I appreciate your sharing this!

(112 posts)get replies regardless of how many times the topic has been posted and others get none. It is also so fast moving in terms of posts that there is a new batch every 5 to 10 minutes. Not a chance of getting seen if 10 minutes go by and you are bumped to the bottom.

(6,788 posts)I read and lurk. I have been here since forever -- 2002 or 2003. Why do I not respond? Well --- first, almost everyone is almost always smarter than me; however, what I dislike most are the arguments and name calling. I just move on to the more interesting discussions. I'm always amazed at how much I learn from some on this site. I pledge to you "Rainy" that henceforth I shall read your posts and let you know that what you have to say is worthwhile and important. I may not always agree and if I do not, I will be "Sunny" to your "Rainy".

(41,818 posts)That it Goes to the greatest Hits page. HOW that happens is a mystery. Most of the things I post get one or two responses. Occasionally I get a few that have more than that. Its a tricky thing. All I can say is keep plugging away. Maybe one day you will get propped up to the greatest page for a story you posted. It will happen some day... and when that happens, its kind of nice. I keep all of mine, bookmarked. SO be sure to do that too.

(24,875 posts)That is certainly not the case anymore.
Hell the only time anyone replies now is if I am drinking and posting and get all sarcastic and mildly annoyed with my replies. Then I am the asshole which elicits replies.
Look up my user name and DU and go back to 2000 to 2009. Tons of big threads. Some bashing Racism (although I am not nearly anti-racist enough now days), many on Socialism, lots of Guy James radio show threads, some on homelessness, several on music/movies...I also don't take the time to post such detailed threads/posts anymore either.
Don't worry. The shine of new thoughts and comments wears off early or later anyway.

(24,253 posts)I've been here for a few years and rarely get more than a few responses to my posts. I don't post that much because I'm on about a half dozen forums. I rarely start threads.
Once I did start a thread here that made it to the top of the Greatest Threads page. That was fun, but I didn't think that thread was nearly one of my best.
Bottom line is this is a pretty big pond with lots of fish, and I am but one of them, and a mere noob compared to others. I do look here at least several time a day.

(1,016 posts)So just look at your views as the quality of your post.
People take for granted or agree with you. It is when they disagree that drives the replies.
Just like tipping, people take for granted good service, they are looking for the wow service. And it is hard to get the wow service. Waitperson are to busy, as waitperson and owners do not want to hire extra people, waitpersons do not want to serve less people, less tips. Owners do it because less labor costs.
