(35,328 posts)probably lost him the election. The media is going to pick up on something Hillary says or does and come
hammering her on that for days, I would bet on it. Some of us on DU warned those thinking this was going to be
a Hillary landslide and we were called concern trolls. Well what say you now? The media is doing everything they can
to get him elected.

(24,728 posts)Well, if Hillary is informed by this, and it helps her debate "performance," then at least it won't have been a complete and utter waste.

if all else fails they'll fall back to the usual crap about women's voices or her "problems" with "trustworthiness" and "dishonesty".
and by "problem" i mean the media insists on asking again and again and again on dead issues like emails and no matter what hillary
could possibly say, they'll say she couldn't put to rest the issue. the proof, of course, is that they keep asking about it

(5,443 posts)He tried to run a populist campaign without the most important part, getting people excited about what he was proposing. Part of the problem was his wonkish, boring personality. American's like their Presidents larger than life, like TR, FDR, Kennedy, Reagan or even Bill Clinton.

(36,827 posts)The far right wing and an exceptionally ignorant electorate has transformed politics from being about issues and reason to something more akin to reality TV. You simply vote the person off the island that you least identify with.

(5,443 posts)so then other factors come to the fore.
Humphrey was more milquetoast then Nixon. In fact, Nixon had an edginess to him.
McGovern had a lot of enthusiastic supporters, but was also bland.
Dukakis, Gore and Kerry were even more bland than Bush or his son. Dukakis and Gore may be among the most bland candidates ever.

(13,452 posts)The Supreme Court surprise announced around 10PM that Florida had until midnight to count six million votes.
University of Chicago counted the votes later and Gore had won while GWB was in office.

(5,443 posts)He was not as charismatic as Kennedy, but made a far deeper impression (not necessarily a good one), than Humphrey or McGovern.
