Lotta people believe that on a fundamental level.
Pour moi, the current decade is looking more like the 70s all the time -- except this one has taken out all the fun bits.

(17,217 posts)I have a friend who was 5 in 1941. Biggest thing she remembers about WWII is that bubble gum went up a penny.

I can remember a teacher attempting to broach the subject with us 3rd graders.
"So, have you all been hearing on the news about Watergate?"
collective 3rd grade reaction: "Ugh! Watergate!!"

(53,339 posts)That term does have a special meaning--not quite a je ne sais quoi--for our generation, doesn't it?
Shortly after returning from volunteering for Kerry in Ohio in '04, I saw John Dean (with Michael Moore) at an event in L.A. Dean signed a book for me, and suddenly became voluble when he learned I'd been out in Ohio on the campaign. If it weren't for my tendency to run away from celebrities, i might have had more of a story to tell here.
