Trump Is Triggering Domestic Violence Survivors With Textbook Abusive Behavior:He lies. He bullies. He threatens. And hes one step away from the presidency.

Trump is triggering so many abuse and rape victims including me, Angel Marie Russell wrote on Facebook after the first presidential debate. His behavior is almost exact to my abusive exes. Its terrifying. I cant even watch him.
While domestic abuse is often characterized as acts of physical violence, its more accurate to understand it as a cluster of specific behavioral tactics that abusers employ to control, intimidate and coerce victims.

His efforts to control Ms. Clinton and the dynamics of the debate (through his interrupting, his talking over and more loudly than Ms. Clinton) coupled with his very well-developed ability to evade accountability of any kind certainly reminded me of how men who batter operate, he said.

This willingness to aggressively deny objective truths is a form of emotional abuse, called gas-lighting. Gas-lighting can cause victims to doubt their own memories and perceptions, and make it hard to distinguish fact from fiction.

(28,151 posts)I watched bits of the debate on-line the day after just couldn't go for long. It is so obvious. Do we have that many potential Stockholm victims here in the US, really?
I work with two women that have that dynamic, one the bully the other with Stockholm and it's just sickening sometimes. I wear earbuds w/music and do my best to remain disengaged.
That is all one can do in a situation where there is a bully and you are stuck in the same place but not actually subordinate; disengage. That leaves them powerless. Oh and their Stockholm victims tend to be really passive aggressive for obvious reasons.
Interestingly the bully likes Trump, the victim can't stand him but hates Hillary too as she's a Faux viewer. lol They're both idiots on many levels.
