The MSM got their marching orders last night...
Morning Blow was propping up that message 1st thing, although Tweetie and the gang started it last night. Pence looked "Presidential" and Kaine was "rude" interrupting him on many occasions with unfair truth statements.
Give me a break.
I only started watching from about 9:45 on but from what I saw Kaine was kicking his ass. Pence denying Trump ever said exactly what he demonstrably DID say.
Oh, but Pence was calm and looked so awesum, right?
I expect this to go on all day until someone starts fact checking Pence and hopefully that becomes the main take-away a week from now.

I think Kaine did much better than I thought he'd do.
They both needed to learn how to look at the camera instead of the moderator.

(7,639 posts)The interrupting each other while the moderator was breaking in as well to try and stop them made it hard to figure out exactly what anyone was saying at several points. I agree.
But now I'm thinking, "why let an obvious lie go unchallenged while Pence gish-galloped off to something else?".
Right now Heilmann (sp) is saying Kaine was "over prepared" and hyped up. Heard that crap last night too.
Now don't forget kids - Pence won on "style", seems to be the talking point today.

(16,993 posts)but the facts won't stand up and Kaine's talking points will ultimately be what is repeated in the media. Those were very accurate and damning, considering that they are mostly Donald's own words. Last night they even showed Pence, himself, on September 8 saying that Putin was a better leader than the U.S. had -- something Pence denied. There is no way that Pence can get away with denying what is on video.

(9,116 posts)They are not an exchange of arguments evaluated for their logical or factual consistency. They never were.
They are about appearance. They are about personality.
It doesn't matter how many times Mike Pence outright lied -- to be honest, I lost count -- the public either does not give a shit or simply does not know any better. What matters is Mike Pence showed up, looked professional, told his lies calmly and clearly, and did exactly what the Trump campaign hired him to do: lend an air of respectability and faux nice-guy warmth to balance Trump's bluster.
I'm not sure what Tim Kaine was going for, but I don't think his performance helped the Clinton campaign nearly as much as Pence's might have helped Trump.
So yes, by that measure, Pence "won".
These debates are a fucking farce. And as long as the campaigns are allowed to dictate the terms of engagement, they always will be.

(3,284 posts)but as I say I don't watch them so I have no idea who "won" or "lost".

(9,116 posts)It's about winning over a crowd. And the crowd has a very short memory.

(2,787 posts)is not to win over the crowd or look like more professional than their opponent. The mission of a Vice Presidential candidate is completely different than the top of the ticket. The Vice Presidential candidates job is to function as a hatchet man for the Presidential candidate. Kaine did his job. Pence did not. The adds displaying not only the lies of Trump, but also the lies of Pence could be very effective.
