Ready to put a flame to its current regulatory framework, the Philadelphia Parking Authority has notified ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft that enforcement action is coming and announced it will immediately begin waiving several regulations currently levied against the medallion taxi industry.
"We recognize we need to redo the regulations," Patrick Doran, the PPA's attorney, told the Philadelphia Business Journal outside of a federal courtroom Tuesday. His comments came amid a hearing in the U.S. District Court of Philadelphia regarding a civil suit filed against the Parking Authority by more than 100 cab companies.

Doran told the courtroom that ride-sharing companies are once again considered illegal in Philadelphia just as they were at the start of the summer.
"The authority is committed to enforcing the law," he said. Beginning in 48 hours, Lyft and UberX drivers will be subject to fines and vehicle impoundment.
