If the Democrats were to win the House and Senate and the White House, what should be the agenda?

I would think one of the first lines of business would be to reform the present tax system? Fix the loopholes.

Secondly, the tax breaks for moving businesses overseas should come to an end. It is time.

Thirdly, no dollars stashed and hidden in foreign accounts would be guaranteed and protected by the US Government. If their currency were to fail, that would be their problem, not the American people's problem.

Fourth, to fix Obamacare, there should be Medicare For All. Anybody can buy into it. Anybody that wants to keep their present insurance would be permitted to do so. However, those that are uninsured or wish to sign up for Medicare For All would be permitted to do so.

There should be a leveling of drug prices in this country. It should be required. Drugs in America should not cost more than it does in other countries.

That would be a good start for this progressive.

With just one litmus test for a putative Justice: repeal Citizens United and, in the strongest possible language, establish that corporations are not people.

Second: remove the cap from Social Security and Medicare taxes. Double the penalties for delayed payment of these taxes.

Third: remove tax breaks for moving businesses overseas. Require, as part of the bill, that a corporation's location for tax purposes be the country in which they make the most in profits, rather than the location of their "corporate offices." Establish economic sanctions against "tax haven" countries.

Fourth: Remove "under 65" provision from Medicare and make it optional for anyone to join it or not, their choice. Auto-enroll anyone who shows up at an emergency room or doctor without insurance.

Fifth: begin works program for infrastructure repair similar to WPA under Roosevelt. Offer full student loan remittance for 5 years of reduced pay service in that program.

Sixth: Greatly expand funding and personnel to combat foreign hackers. Treat any hacking by foreign powers as an attack by their armed forces; defeat them and retaliate in greater force.

That's it for legislative initially - in terms of executive actions, I think President Clinton should immediately communicate in the strongest possible diplomatic terms that the United States honors our commitment to NATO and, in the process, inform Putin in the strongest possible diplomatic terms that further aggression will not be tolerated.

No more 4-4 non-decisions.

Then a blitz of Medicare for All, overrule Citizens' United, fix the infrastructure (get good jobs going -- and support unions along the way), strengthen foreign ties, reinstate the Voting Rights Act and then start chipping away at the rest.

The secret is to hit them hard on Day One, and not wait a couple of months as Obama did, which gave the GOP a chance to regroup and block him at every turn.

Hillary may get a mandate. She might also get the entire Congress. Use it to push a liberal agenda through, or at least use that as a starting point for negotiations, with the goal being to always end up with a center-left result.

It has already been stated that there is zero interest in any meaningful health care reform beyond shoring up the Obama care cash cow for insurance companies. There is zero interest in any reduction in student loan interest rates or free college--even for lower income families. There is no interest in stopping fracking. There is minimal interest in stopping trade deals or pipelines.

Pretty much it will be business as usual except MAYBE we'd see a couple SCOTUS appointments that are not as bad as the dead one that left the open seat we have right now. You might see women added to the Selective Service registration, and maybe they could manage to pass a few feel good resolutions regarding women's pay.

Nice dream to think about a Dem controlled Congress, but I honestly think it will be a complete waste.

Sorry.

if they set it up at the beginning with things like green energy, infrastructure, minimum wage increase and the other things she's talked about. It would also include raising taxes on the wealthiest. Set the foundation. Of course it won't happen all at once, but get it going and then go on to other things while the economy turns upward for the little guy. Economies turn slowly and climate change (green energy) does as well, so they are important to change early.

Then on to immigration, criminal justice reform, and all the other important things to do. I actually think she'll set a lot of things in motion at the beginning. She won't have a learning curve going in.

JMHO of course.

A self-examination and detox of the party removing the neo-liberal disease. Then they could move on to:

2. Get rid of Citizen's United, and reform elections by making them 100% publicly funded and using some sort of IRV system.

3. Re-regulate and make public again all the de-regulated and privatized public services that have been decimated since the Reagan revolution.

4. Re-focus attention away from global empire and war, and towards domestic infrastructure and programs that benefit the 99% and move social justice issues forward.

Without that first thing, though, the rest could not happen.

52. WHEN we take back the House & Senate
Tue Oct 11, 2016, 04:51 PM
Oct 2016

I'd like to see

1) First and foremost we need to get a very Progressive SCOTUS Justice in place. Hopefully Justices Kennedy, Ginsburg, and Breyer retire during her first term so that she can make the appointments.

2) Second Issue we need to have the courage to tackle is gun control. I know it's a tough fight but we can't constantly shy away from a fight every time the Republicans and the NRA start screaming. I think after the beating their going to get when Trump drags their Party down their spirits will be low and we'll be able to keep the momentum of the election going and finally accomplish some meaningful gun control measures. While we should move to an eventual outright ban on all guns we can't do it overnight so I'd be very happy with a ban on assault weapons, ban on high capacity clips, universal background check, registration, licensing (with intense mental health screening and safety training) and stiff penalties for violating these laws. This will be a great start to joining the rest of the civilized world and make our streets much safer for everyone.

3) Universal Healthcare, if we can win the gun control battle this one will be easy. People are already getting fed up with their health insurance companies so I think the time will be right to finally set this in stone. While a lot of very smart people point to how much time it takes to

4) Tackling minimum wage, after the gun control and universal healthcare fights are won this one should be next. Every American has a right to a living wage, especially the poorest Americans. This issue reaches everyone and will be something that will make a huge difference in their lives; and they'll thank us for it in 2020.

5) Immigration, we need to create a path to citizenship for these families that are already here and the ones that are coming. Personally I like the idea of settling them in the South to start making States like Texas Purple but of course they can live wherever they like. These people will help balance out the white majorities that are entrenched and obliterate any remaining white minority rule.

With these 5 changes I think Hillary would be a shoe in for 2020 and would firmly build upon the foundations Obama has laid.

It will be a very exciting four years.
