After reading about the Kansas Speaker Pro Tem's admiration of a Hitler quote I was curious as to what he actually said. I found that many of them, unfortunately, sound like they are right out of the conservative playbook.

(29,503 posts)there is a subset of members here who predictably form a chorus of those singing that 'parents are not responsible for their children's acts'.
Likewise, history's evil people may have had brilliant insights and minds, but it doesn't mean you are evil for marveling at their genius.
I think a good example here is Machiavelli - he was probably a douchebag, but his insights on politics continue to be studied many centuries after his death.
None of which is intended to redeem Hitler, Naziism, or anyone/anything at odds with liberalism. Just making an observation.

His use of the "big lie" has been proof, for me at least, that he learned his lessons well. We've long known of neo-Nazis in our country. Now, we're beginning to get proof that the repug party is a haven for them.
According to the article I've linked to, his "...cousin even greeted Donald with a Heil Hitler salute." This is just one of many sources for this story.

(10,749 posts)When used as a warning, they are worthwhile quotes. Rules not to live by. Rules by which to destroy a Democratic, civil society. Rules for creating a fascist state.
However, I don't believe that clown in Nebraska was using Hitler's quote as a warning. For Republicans, Hitler's quotes are a guide to overthrowing our country, for destroying 250 years of Democracy and civil society. And that's what makes her reference to Hitler well beyond the pale.
