in Newtown PA with a friend of mine who is a (lukewarm) Trump supporter. I did it because I was curious, first, to know if the crowds were as big as reported, and secondly, just for the experience.
There seemed to be a lot of people (I am no good at estimating numbers of people) waiting at 4 for the 7 p.m. speech, lined up in snaking, folded-back lines that pretty much filled half an athletic field. A handful of Hillary supporters showed up across the street in protest, but they were mostly ignored. The newspaper said there were 24 of them; I counted 8, but maybe there were protesters in other areas I'm not aware of.
Vendors, mostly African-American, lined the field with lots of $20 t-shirts and $10 hats. The hats were made in China; I know because the vendor gave me one. I was actually grateful to have it because while I was not going to spend any money there, I felt out of place because I wasn't wearing any Trump regalia like 99% of the crowd. (He gave me the hat after I asked him if he would take $5 for a t-shirt--for a teenager who was with us--and he said "No, but I'll give you a free hat, Grandma" .
Once we got to the door, we were subjected to airport-like security, which was what was holding up the line. We stood outside for almost three hours. We had been told we wouldn't be let in without a ticket--which we had, thanks to my friend--but once there, nobody asked for a ticket, so I doubt that even they have an accurate count of how many people attended.
I'll continue in another post so this one doesn't get too long.

(6,974 posts)Thank you for your account thus far of being able to withstand a tRump rally. Personally, I would never attend one of his rallies. I'm multi-racial, and don't think I'd be accepted there. May even be asked to LEAVE.
Looking forward to your next installment of "MY day at a tRump rally."

(231 posts)because mine has the Hillary sticker on it. I thought of that last minute, and last-last minute I pulled the I Stand With Planned Parenthood sticker off the window.
I think--and it's easy for me to risk your well-being--that you would have been welcomed, I really do. They are kind of desperate to demonstrate that they aren't racists, after all--as long as you were able to keep a straight face.
