My (business) partner went to vote today just outside Austin, Tejas. She said the poll was quite busy. After she arrived a group of women in their 60s showed up, each wearing a #NastyWoman T-shirt. Then more arrived. And more. And they were having a good time. Clearly they were an organized group of some sort.
It seems to me this is a cool thing to consider. In most (all?) jurisdictions, you can't wear a campaign shirt to a polling place. Nasty Woman would not be a campaign shirt but it sure as hell sends a clear message!
Go Nasty Women!

(50,986 posts)fair game for voting.
The GOP's own presidential candidate was the one who brought us the phrase. And the party's absolutely no stranger to nasty women. Ann Coulter, for instance.

If enough nasty women and bad hombres get challenged and it holds up the process for too long, legitimate poll workers will have to throw out Trump's people.

(14,708 posts)Just wearing the nasty woman shirt as is? I can picture a large, grizzlied biker type sporting the button or shirt. It would be funny as hell!

(10,201 posts)Maybe I'll hold off on shaving, leather up, and ride over to my polling station on the 8th. I like the one Katy Perry wore, with the plain white and nasty woman text inside a bright red heart...
What size in a woman's shirt would translate from a men's large? I'm thinking either XL or XXL.

(9,117 posts)There were indeed long lines the first day, although they tended to be before and after work and during lunch break.
I do not believe in the right-wing whack-doodle canard that Team Donkey resurrects the dead so they may vote again, but those who savor irony might enjoy the fact that the early polling place I use was a former funeral parlor.

(6,241 posts)I got there an hour after the pool opened, and waited about 20-25 minutes before I got to the table. She scanned my ID, verified the information ("Do you still live on xxxxx street?" with me, then said everything is good. Her partner handed me the access code and I was out of there and about my day 5 minutes later. It felt good putting the mark next to Hillary Clinton's name. My only regret is that I couldn't take my daughter there, but she was in school.

(2,747 posts)I voted Monday morning in Marble Falls because I'm in Burnet County (Travis County is about 300 feet from my back door). Only one person was ahead of me when I got there about 8:30 AM, but I took that as a good sign since Burnet County usually votes about 80% Republican. Hoping many Republicans are too demoralized to vote.

(165 posts)I went out to vote early yesterday morning to beat the lunch crowd. It was south of Austin in a red county. I vote here often and don't usually have to worry about parking. The place was packed with a line out the door. As I walked toward the building I passed the Republican pop-up shade shelter and was astounded by a good looking blond lady screaming about how "the Democrats" were going to ruin the country! She didn't stop with a single comment, but went on like a sidewalk preacher. Never seen anything like it! Probably because there were more blue shirts in that line than red ones. Go blue Wave!

(54 posts)at Southpark Meadows shopping center on the south end of Austin. Chalk up one more Texan voting for Clinton/Kaine. Just after 10AM it was busy but no long lines. They had 20 booths there and 2 check in stations. Just had to wait behind about 3 people for processing. Doesn't take long to vote straight Dem ticket. Even if you vote straight ticket, the machines allow you to mark individual candidates from other parties if you so choose. There are also a few school-related races that are non-partisan plus a bond proposition (for traffic corridor improvements badly needed in Austin).

(4,558 posts)I've a strong feeling if this was done at my polling place in Katy, TX, they'd have been asked to leave and return with different shirts, turn the shirts inside out, or some other such. Hell, in 2008, I just wore a shirt that said "HOPE" on it, in black lettering, not even with the "O" being the Obama logo, just large, plain black block letters "HOPE".. I was made to turn my shirt inside out before I was allowed to go in and vote.

(54 posts)from Glen Maxey (premier Dem activist here in Austin) for TX urban counties comparing 2012 and 2016. 253K in 2012 to 393K for yesterday. Travis county (Austin) more than doubled our 2012 number. Dallas and El Paso almost doubled.

(12,448 posts)I can't speak for any other jurisdiction, but Maryland law says you can wear campaign shirts, buttons, etc. and carry campaign literature into polling places; you just can't electioneer beyond a designated area, that is, try to talk anyone into voting for a candidate.
I just ordered my Nasty Women vote t-shirt from Amazon!

(62,444 posts)While some jurisdictions are the rare exceptions, whether or not the slogan on your shirt is or is not "political", is not YOUR decision to make. It is the decision of those running the polling place.
If you want to vote, vote.
If you want to get into an argument, delay your voting, and delay the voting of others, then feel free to engage in some idiotic disagreement with the cop at the polling place.
Please don't do it.

(1,137 posts)I wanted to make sure since I just got my "Nasty Women Make History" shirt and now am ready to vote.
No arguments on my side or delays or anything else. Just feel the first amendment is a pretty important thing and I know Trump and his followers would like to do away with it. That is why it is so important to wear it. I have been silenced into not putting bumper stickers on my car or a sign in my yard. I will not be silenced when I go to vote. I have had it with these yahoos.
