Happy Birthday, Theodore Roosevelt!

On this day in 1858, one of the greatest conservation visionaries was born—President Theodore Roosevelt. Serving as our country’s 26th president, Roosevelt was also a naturalist and prolific author who loved America’s natural beauty and resources. Throughout his administration he advocated for conservation, protecting 230 MILLION acres of land. He created 150 national forests, the first 51 federal bird reservations, five national parks and the first four national game preserves!

Yes he was a Republican but they hated him and he eventually left the party.

He would have considered a liberal by today standards.

He feared that corporations and bankers had way too much power at the time. He sued JP Morgan and was successfully in breaking his railroad monopoly.
He also was successful in breaking a major miners strike by negotiating with both parties to increase worker conditions.

His party hates him at the time and didn't aspect him to become president.

Vice President was a particularly weak position during that time.

Unfortunately for the Republican PTB, William McKinley got shot and died before he had settled in office.
