Meanwhile at Standing Rock, when corporate interests are threatened, the hammer is coming down.
And guess what...we tax payers get to pay for the Bundy destruction they did to the Refuge.

(466 posts)As an Oregonian I am appalled beyond belief. Unbelievable. This will give a green light to every anti-government loon out there to do whatever they want. It's outrageous.

As I wrote in a similar thread:
They were charged with "conspiring to impede federal workers from their jobs." What? They weren't even charged with a basic destruction of federal property. If my black ass had done what the Bundy crew did, it would have taken the court a full day just to read the list of charges the prosecutor would have filed against me. This, assuming I survived the hail of bullets law enforcement would have rained down on me the moment I came out to chat about "terms."
I don't think the jury can be blamed for this one. If you catch a man ON-CAMERA stealing an apple, and you charge him with stealing an orange, you lose.
Edit to add: They were also charged with possession of a firearm on federal property. Only the jury can explain the acquittal on that one. A-mazing.

(17,216 posts)The Feds have always adopted a hands-off approach to civil disobedience, allowing the governors and local law enforcement to bear the onus. Thus the Feds can keep their hands relatively clean while the State of North Dakota breaks heads.
As is clear from the charges presented, the Feds were not particularly interested in inconveniencing the Bundy boys any. Whether this is because of racism, or an attempt not to make martyrs, or some other reason, it is a pitiful performance and an insane response by the jury. It does boggle the mind.
The Feds could put a stop to the DAPL pipeline in a second, though, by revoking the permits granted by the Corps of Engineers. But again, "inaction" seems to be their watchword.
I wonder what the shade of RFK would say.
