GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz Reported To FBI For Using Potential Illegal Private Email Server

The man who has promised to lead the investigations of Hillary Clinton if she wins the White House, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) is under new scrutiny for his potential use of an illegal private email server.

(snip)

It is going to be very difficult for Rep. Chaffetz to investigate Hillary Clinton if he also was using a private email server. The Democratic Coalition Against Trump raises a great point. Why is Hillary Clinton the only person under investigation?

The Russian hacks have proven that the FBI needs to look at all officials who have access to classified information and use private email. If Republicans want to make email use a national security issue, then let’s examine all the members of Congress who are using private email servers.

Nothing terrifies a lazy Republican politician more than having their constituents forced to be ashamed of them and decide not to vote for them. Remember: it's about power.

During the Bush* years, private email servers were de riguere, in order to avoid public scrutiny. Of course Chaffetz --and probably many other Repugs-- use their own private servers. They don't want their obstructionist footprints available for all to see.

Run with the public persona of being hard hitting anti-corruption political officials, then only bring cases against the competition of the mobsters they're in bed with.

Like Giuliani. He was always wiping out the mob in NY, but I notice they're still there.

Mussolini didn't wipe out the mob in Italy, he represented one faction of it, and wiped out the competitors to that faction.

It seems like there's not actually any allegations of him having a private email server, and just speculation that he might have received classified information on a public email account. I hope the FBI looks into it, but I wouldn't be too excited about this.

What members of Congress cannot do is skirt the laws about official communications. If there is evidence a law is violated, then proceed, but NO blanket assumptions that having a server is a breach of the law.
