A white University of Cincinnati police officer was wearing a Confederate flag T-shirt under his uniform when he fatally shot an unarmed black man last year.
The black T-shirt with the flag and the words "Great Smoky Mountains" was presented during a crime scene technician's testimony Friday at the murder trial of Ray Tensing, who has since been fired.
Sam DuBose was killed in July of last year during a traffic stop just outside of campus. He was shot in the head.
A use-of-force expert testified Friday that DuBose was not a threat to the officer, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Scot Haug said Tensing's move to reach into DuBose's car to "knock out" the ignition key "was technically unsound," according to the newspaper.

(46,730 posts)Even the retired ones. I suspect you'll find a number of racists who have been able to hide in those jobs. What turns them into a big challenge for everyone is the police/sheriff network that they can rely on. When one of them takes on a community position and does a wink, wink, nudge, nudge to a crony telling him, "let me know if you need my help", I think it means that anyone that gets in their way can expect heighten scrutiny from the police and sheriff department.
So, yes, let's send a message that the police will be held accountable for any signs of prejudice.

(14,855 posts)I liked the cops where I grew up. They truly seemed like decent people.
I now live in another suburb of Dayton (with the same kind of low crime and racial composition), but the cops here act like everyone's a "terrorist" or something. I've mentioned where I live to co-workers in the past and their first comment was "the cops there are dicks!"
I later looked up the chief of police here, and he's (1) Republican; and (2) a big participant in something called CALEA which encourages wire-tapping.

(14,855 posts)I don't hate everyone there, of course, but that city is pretty conservative overall.
I grew up as a Reds and Bengals fan, but I cheer for those teams to lose anymore. They haven't disappointed me lately!
