President-elect Donald Trump signaled he would break one of his most authoritarian campaign-promises: His vow to do everything he could to jail his political rival Hillary Clinton.
Its just not something that I feel very strongly about, Trump told reporters and columnists at The New York Times Tuesday afternoon. I dont want to hurt the Clintons, I really dont. She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways. Trump told the Times, regarding his supporters, I dont think theyll be disappointed.
He thought wrong.
Many of Trumps more high-profile fans, surrogates, and allies are angry about this about-face and insist Crooked Hillaryas Trump dubbed her throughout the campaignbe locked up. Im hearing from people who are livid at Hillary, theyre still mad, Rush Limbaugh, the famous conservative talk show host, said on Tuesday afternoon. There are a lot of people who really thought that when Trump said You oughta be in jail, that they agreed with that and thought that she should be!

(63,221 posts)We don't need this ridiculous circus, I don't care how much Trump voters want it. It's bad for the nation and that should be the bottom line. Especially since they WON'T find anything on her.

(35,084 posts)It's funny you know, Alex Jones and his ilk, constantly saying the minorities and liberals and government and illuminati are all persecuting them in some vast conspiracy since the dawn of time and how they just want to live their lives... Then Trump gets elected, and these same people start talking about how things are going to change now, there's a revolution, and these groups now are going to feel their wrath... and now Trump, I guess realizing that's he not going to rule by decree can't give them everything, and now he must be part of the conspiracy.
A little slice of karma I suppose.

(3,077 posts)That was never going to happen. It the interview he said that the Clintons are good people. Some of the base may see the truth behind the contacts but a lot of them don't or don't care.

(58,785 posts)For thousands of years bad leaders have been pointing blame at chosen "goats" for their unhappy populations vent their rage on. Hillary's far to valuable to be "nice" to.
I know a bunch of Republicans who will sit quietly while SS and Medicare are destroyed by their own party and then need to turn a rage like nothing we've seen so far on the party they've been trained to blame for everything.
But the GOP will need to create a distraction from other actions by staking Hillary out before then.
Which brings to mind: TRUMP doesn't have to do anything himself. Others will,. and with the help of the FBI and DoJ. Jeff Sessions, for instance, already has a proven history of prosecuting innocent people with manufactured evidence.
