(3,975 posts)WE are women. WE may refer to each other and ourselves as hens. I have used chicks and dames on here and you would have thought I poked somebody in the eye with an ice pick. Grow up. WE are hens, dames, broads, chicks, ladies, females......

(29,676 posts)would you replace those words in both your posts about "white men?" That would be so great and would make my day.

(28,968 posts)as opposed to old men? You hear it all the time, as in the Christmas song "Grandma got run over by a Reindeer" for just one of many joking references to '"old ladies". All you have to do is replace 'grandma' with 'grandpa' and ask yourself if its still "funny"... I think you'll find that it's not, because in the popular mind, accidents involving old men don't carry nearly the 'humor quotient' of those happening to ''old ladies'. I remember reading an article years ago in which a couple of male art critics were discussing the value
of a certain rare painting. One said "Well, it's worth at least as much as a couple of old ladies". Again, we couldn't magine his using "men" instead of "ladies" there, could we?

(29,676 posts)a white man was the butt of a sexist racist joke.

(28,968 posts)It simply goes to the different value accorded to men and women.

Of course, this is unworkable in this country, women voted in droves to be made second class citizens.

(28,968 posts)Jealous? Internalized Misogyny? Who knows.
WhiteTara
(29,676 posts)even than men. It has to do with the false narrative that women need men to protect them and so women battle other women for the "best" men. The competition creates animosity. I thought that was going to be healed with the women's movement, but apparently it is still very strong and no mortal woman is good enough.
whathehell
(28,968 posts)As I mentioned in another post in another thread, internalized misogyny, like internalized racism, IS a real thing. Studies show that oppressed people tend to internalize the low opinion in which they are held -- All the negative imagery, vocabulary, etc. which confronts them on a daily basis takes its toll on one's self image, even if unconsciously -- Oppressed people tend to dislike themselves and others LIKE themselves -- They've been told to all their lives. I think it's especially true of non-feminist women...Much of the early 'consciousness raising' sessions of the early Women's movement dealt with that.

(22,651 posts)I just found it odd anyone would vote for a president and then write in Johnson. Several I 'heard discussed' with the Johnson write in, were said to be absentee ballots with Clinton vote marked.

(46,572 posts)Any way to match the handwriting?
exboyfil
(17,857 posts)but if a significant number has done this, I would question ballot security (unless you can find a group that got together to screw with the process before the election). I absolutely think that, unless someone worked to disguise their handwriting, that you can demonstrate that the same hand wrote the candidate in. Even two of these shows tampering that should be investigated. 100s then the entire process is in question, and a close look needs to happen in every voting district.

(86,040 posts)that's what they tell you in the instructions... if you vote for more than the race has open seats, your ballot for that race only will be discarded but not your entire ballot. So if you voted for two candidates on the same ballot, that portion will not count but the rest of your ballot will count for other races, like Senate and others. At least, that's what they tell us, a good half of our very rural state votes by mail.

We don't have to be able to read the ballots just be able to see if someone writes anything on them.
