improperly fired is his home.
Police say the 71-year-old Harmon died at his home on Brunell Avenue after a handgun he was showing a teenage boy went off. The 16-year-old boy was handling the gun at the time.
Harmon, a steadfast defender of gun rights and champion of conservative viewpoints, was a longtime Maine Sunday Telegram and Press Herald editor and columnist. He worked for the newspapers for 41 years before retiring in 2011, although he continued writing a weekly column.
The teenage boy and his father, both from North Berwick, were visiting Harmons home at the time of the shooting, police said. Detectives said they have been cooperating with the investigation and will be undergoing more questioning on Thursday.
I wonder just how strong his friends & relatives feel about "Gun Rights with NO RESTRICTIONS" now? Mr. Harmon is a prime example of why there SHOULD BE a mandate of TRAINING before anyone can own a gun! The first thing you are taught is NEVER STORE A GUN LOADED. The second thing is WHEN SOMEONE HADND YOU A GUN, ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT LOADED!

(22,671 posts)Many handguns don't have safetys. And if the gun uses a clip for its rounds, it's difficult to show someone the gun without it attached.
Respect the firearm for the killing weapon it was designed to be, not a toy.
