...if he wasn't so obviously reading off a paper, after praising Mitch McConnel and saying what great friends they are and how much he looks forward to working with him.
When will Democrats learn to FIGHT people like Ryan & McConnell, who have no interest in working with us, and not say we love them and can't wait to work with them, only to get our legs kicked out from underneath us?

(85,998 posts)..Schumer has been speaking out and highly critical of many, many aspects of the Trump transition and coming presidency in terms that match his speech today.
Give the man credit for brains. He's certainly not the sop to Trump or republicans that's been presented here. You really need to read farther than the baiting reports from press (and others) who are invested in tamping down opposition, dividing our opposition, and propping up the Trump regime.

(31,464 posts)I haven't read anything about it, thank you very much. I watched it live, and this was my reaction. It sounded wonderful if you didn't watch him flipping through pages while reading his script, AFTER praising how wonderful Mitch McConnell is.
FUCK THAT. How many time do you have to be kicked in the balls before you start protecting your balls, and stop saying "Please sir, may I have another?"
Again, I'm not basing this on what the press says...this is entirely based upon my watching his entire bullshit speech. He'll still make a few bazillion dollars this year supporting the same old bullshit, as long as he plays lipservice to the groundlings.

Sen. Schumer is bring the opposition. You're bringing the cynicism.
I'm with Chuck.

(146,317 posts)Really it's not. How about going after the Republicans instead? the Senate is a very interesting body, and operates in a way that is supposed to be collegial. A certain amount of diplomacy is always in use in the Senate.
Instead, listen to what he said about Donald Trump. If Democrats are going to block anything in the Senate, they will need the cooperation of three Republican members. Without diplomacy, that will be impossible. With diplomacy, it might be possible. The Minority Leader has a responsibility to get things done, not to please your ears, frankly.
We know who every Senator is now for the next Congress. That list is not going to change, unless someone dies or resigns. So, perhaps we should work with Schumer, whose experience makes him an asset to the Democratic Party.
Let's not begin the congressional term by trashing our own party's members, shall we?

(146,317 posts)In fact, he failed miserably. Obama won, and outmaneuvered McConnell at that game. Here's the thing: We have the people we have in the Senate and House. Attacking them is not in our best interests, frankly. We're in the minority party now.

(37,748 posts)Reading a prepared statement is such a drag, and certainly lacks the emotional impact so many desire from protocol and policy.
Here's hoping they get a professional-quality laugh-track, James Earl Jones for voice-overs and background music composed by Hans Zimmer. Maybe a quick Wilhelm Scream for added urgency.
'cause anything else is just giving up and giving in...

(31,464 posts)It would help convince me of his convictions if the speaker actually looked at me (the camera), at least once, and told me what he really thought. Otherwise, he's just reading something some intern wrote for him at 2:00 am while Chuck was in bed. When the next big vote comes up, Chuck will vote for his wallet and will largely ignore what is needed to correct what ails the Democratic party.
