Trump responds to Meryl Streep: denies mocking reporter

Last edited Mon Jan 9, 2017, 08:27 AM - Edit history (1)

President-elect Donald J. Trump dismissed Meryl Streep as “a Hillary lover” early Monday morning after the actress, in a speech at the Golden Globes award ceremony, denounced him as a bully who disrespected and humiliated others.

“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter,” she said, referring to a speech by Mr. Trump in 2015 when he shuddered and flailed his arms, seeming to mock a disabled reporter for The New York Times. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”

Mr. Trump, as he has done many times before, grew heated in the interview as he flatly denied that he had intended to make fun of the Times reporter, Serge F. Kovaleski.

“I was never mocking anyone,” Mr. Trump said. “I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story,” arguing that the reporter had been trying to back away from an article he wrote in September 2001 about the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and elsewhere that month.

“People keep saying I intended to mock the reporter’s disability, as if Meryl Streep and others could read my mind, and I did no such thing,” he said in the interview.

Here's the CNN report--with tape--of Trump and what Meryl Streep described

Doesn't Cheeto know this is on tape? Don't his supporters know it is on tape? We are really down the rabbit hole with this guy. Just another example of how he lies about everything.

I wish SNL and other comedians would stop imitating him. It's not that it isn't funny as hell, I mean I almost pissed my pants when Alec Baldwin was doing the debates and came after Clinton like in Jaws.

However, I think that by parodying him, it minimalizes him. I'm never t sure if I'm explaining it right or not.

Sociopathy: 1. Pathological lying
2. Emotional detachment (may be hard to evaluate from our positions - needs someone closer)
3. Narcissism
4. Reckless attitude
5. Anger (explosive, over minor sleights)
6. Manipulation
7. Revolving door of friends

1, 3, 4, & 5 seem pretty clear and obvious, and can be evaluated objectively. 2, 6, & 7 may need input from close family. I don't think all of them are required for the diagnosis.

Trump so incredibly thin-skinned and juvenile. He can't even see how his insulting Streep in retaliation makes it all the more obvious that he was indeed entirely capable of having mocked that reporter, which he absolutely did. He shows no self-control.

with this fucking nonsense. "Yes I did" / "No I didn't"..... with the media dutifully reporting every ridiculous "tweet" since he refuses to have press conferences.

One of our local Philly station Tech/Social Media reporters just had a story on this -

Trump Tweets, Are They News?
January 8, 2017 11:51 PM By Melony Roy

by Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Is Twitter an effective or appropriate platform for presidential news? Americans are divided on the issue – and so are journalists. David Boardman, Temple’s Dean of Media and Communications, calls the movement among some journalists to boycott covering Donald Trumps tweets “really misguided.” “If that’s how he chooses to communicate with the American people, absolutely we have to cover it. It gives us great insight into what he’s thinking at any point in time, it’s clearly unfiltered,” said Boardman.

This method of communication has created a conundrum for journalists. “It puts tremendous pressure for speed on the press, because you can’t sit back and wait for a convenient time to fact check him, it’s out there instantaneously to millions of people,” Boardman said. He says the key is to not simply report on what he tweets. “To immediately provide as much context and truth squading on his comments, because he’s shown time and again to put out statements that ultimately were shown not to be factual. That’s definitely the responsibility of the press,” said Boardman.

It seems you can can expect the tweeting to continue after the inauguration. Trump’s White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer says he’ll continue to use Twitter often throughout his presidency.

they will find any 'reason' to dismiss what makes them uncomfortable if it means they would have to change their minds
about it. The psychological term for it is cognitive dissonance.

You could probably show the tape--with no commentary--just the tape of Trump to 100 of his supporters and the majority of
