What Meryl did is what we need our politcal leaders to do.

And I will remind them of this very instance from last night with Meryl.

Not ONE senator objected to the certifying of the electoral vote this week. Not ONE. Several Reps. objected on the basis of election corruption & irregularities, and hacking. All valid! Not one senator would object as well.
(See this thread for info: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028440893)

It probably would not have changed the outcome of the vote, but it would have changed so much in other ways. One big change would be what is going on right now in response to Meryl's eloquence. Her actions and speech has gotten massive media coverage and it has uplifted moral.

Our political leaders must speak out, loudly, and often!

It's too little, too late, now. Doesn't matter if the dems suddenly grow a spine & get a cohesive message out there, the lying, thieving cheats are in charge of most of our government & they aren't giving that power back easily. I'm not sure a party that hasn't had a spine in three decades can suddenly grow one.

I understand your comments and agree. But, to just roll-over is unacceptable! This time we are living in might just be the era everything turned on its head and we actually became a democracy as a result of this mess.

We NEED our Dem leaders to SPEAK UP and to call a lie a lie.

They need to be the ones out there, pointing out what McConnell said last year versus what he is saying this year! We need them to stand up for themselves and us, the people they are supposed to represent.

Where were the dems when the republicans were funding think tanks & buying up all the radio stations 35 years ago? They were running from the word liberal as fast as they could, while they hopped on the corporate gravy train. Why don't they demand to be on the Sunday news shows? Are they waiting for an invitation? They are United States Congresspeople - they can make a stink about their voice not being heard. My bad. Dems don't make a stink.

When you have the disadvantage, you fight harder.

on edit: BTW, Frank Luntz, the little shit who came up with slogans like Healthy Forests, Clean Skies, while the GOP's cronies chopped trees & spewed toxins, has moved to New Zealand because the GOP is too toxic. What a fucker.

Problem is, the dems weren't even thinking of strategy, they were so busy distancing themselves from the word liberal & jumping on the corporate gravy train. They were outplayed early in the game & they never recovered & here we are - end of game.

I try to maintain some sense of humor cuz I like to laugh, but it's looking grim.

we must have fair elections.

Election corruption is a MAJOR issue. In my mind, it is why the dems lost one-thousand seats. One-thousand!

---Voter roll purger.
---Voter ID laws.
---Closing polling locations (you know where)
---Machines breaking on election day. (82 machines broke in Detroit on election day! trump only won by some 10,000 votes. That's all!)
---Multiple locations they found mail-in ballots not counted.
---Provisional ballots not counted.
---complicated rules about voter registration, with cut off dates far in advance of elections.
---on and on it goes.
*** All these voter suppression laws and tactics are brought to you by - you guessed it - republicans.

We need fair elections for a democracy to work.

as a Party now, no more nice responses to hate. Just an opinion...and if you are looking for an argument on that point, you are barking up the wrong tree, whether you mentioned courage or not. I am FIRM in the belief that courage, like Streeps and ALL passionate anti-trumpfurer people, will be a necessary component in the next four years...have a good one.

Should she not go to a broadway show ever?

She fought for over a year. A hard fight. She had to show up on stage with that man, debate him. She owned him up there. She got over three million more votes than Trump. And she still lost.

She deserves a break.
