A rarely discussed benefit of the ACA (Obamacare)

It lifted the cap that insurance was willing to pay. In other words insurance companies, since the ACA passed, insurance corporations cannot drop you mid-treatment because you are too expensive.

They used to be able to stop paying for your care at your most vulnerable moments when you reached their cap.

This alone has saved thousands of families from financial ruin.

Surgeries can't be scheduled unless payment arrangements are made in advance. Often babies need a series of surgeries. Even a million dollar cap can be reached quickly. Sarah Palin spoke of death panels as if they're a new thing.

2. Definitely a benefit -

but it is not rarely discussed. I'd put it among the top three benefits discussed.

Anyone who has ever had a very costly health care matter, or a chronic one, was watching very closely to make sure the ACA did not permit insurance companies to drop care - or to put lifetime caps on it.

He's a right-wing nut.

When his super expensive treatment was over I heard him bashing Obamacare. I butted in and told him about this cap being done away with under Obamacare. And that it saved his family from bankruptcy.

He just said, "oh yeah".

Dense people.

... can someone criticize the EXACT THING that SAVED HIS LIFE? There just aren't words for that kind of stupidity and hypocrisy.

And now that he's all better, he'd be happy to take away the same thing for other sick people? He's a horrible person.

You're right that that was a key benefit that too many people don't know about.

10. There is a real lack of understanding about this stuff

that many people don't fully understand unless they've personally experienced it or know someone who has.

And trying to have rational discussions about this with anti-ACA people is impossible because their opposition to it has nothing to do with healthcare and solving the problems we have. It's just about getting rid of something in which they were told to hate. We might as well be discussing which color is the best color. It's why there is no real legit "solution" coming from the right, and it's why the common people on the right can't seem to give any real input on how they think things should be fixed/run. And the few ideas they do put there make little sense or would have minimal impact on the problems.
