Okay, Kellyanne. I'll bite. You said Trump needs to be judged on his "heart"....
....as opposed to what his words and actions are.
As ridiculous and utterly subjective as that notion sounds, I'll attempt to humor you and play ball.
So that we're not distorting who the Donald Trump of today is, I'll use an example. A very recent example. As recent as this morning.
So in receiving a lifetime achievement award yesterday, Meryl Streep gave a speech where she referenced--but not by name--how Donald Trump, while on the campaign trail, by all appearances mocked and ridiculed a reporter named Serge Kovaleski who has a physical condition called anthrogryposis, which causes his hands and arms to be clenched up in an irregular fashion. Kovaleski--who had reported on the September 11th attacks back in 2001--had disputed Trump's claim that "hundreds" or "thousands" of Muslims watched the attack from New Jersey and celebrated the attacks as they happened, and gave a written statement to that effect. While at a campaign attack, Trump referenced Kovaleski while clenching and flailing his arms around in an abnormal fashion while saying, "You’ve got to see this guy: 'Uhh, I don't know what I said. Uhh, I don't remember!" (Even though as it should be noted Kovaleski's statements were written, not on tape or video).
So Meryl Streep references this incident as an example of the powerful using their positions to bully and degrade.
One could say that how Trump reacts to this would be a proper measure of his "heart" of which Kellyanne Conway spoke. Would Trump simply refute the claim that he was in fact mocking Kovaleski and his condition, putting aside the fact there is video evidence that purports to show him doing exactly that?
No. The Madman didn't even bother to do that.
The first thing he said in his response to Streep--the very first thing--was to call her "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood." Meryl Streep, who is in fact by all objective standards one of the most celebrated and honored movie actresses of all time. That Meryl Streep.
So his gut reaction--does the heart count as a "gut"--is to go personal and immediately denigrate the person who is criticizing him and attempting to destroy her well-earned reputation. Trump didn't even bother to comment on the actual substance of Streep's remarks until a follow up tweet. For Trump it's attack first, attempt to grapple with facts later.
So if that's how Trump reacted to criticism from Meryl Streep--by namecalling someone who is cherished almost universally as an acting legend by claiming they are "overrated"--is it really that unbelievable that in response to Kovaleski's criticism, Trump chose to go for the jugular and cruelly mock his physical condition?
Is it, Kellyanne?
I'm sorry, but Donald Trump failed that test on all levels, in his words, in his actions and with his "heart".
