Maybe Bill Belichick will stop writing love letters to Donald Trump:
Best wishes for great results tomorrow,
Bill Belichick

(7,300 posts)I confess to not knowing why I should suddenly be a Texan fan but I doubt it's bad enough to make me like anything Texan.

(7,300 posts)I don't dislike all things Texan (yay Texas Towelie!). Really, just most of it. It used to be a lovely place, before the Bushes ruined it.
Belichick's politics have no bearing on my like or dislike of things Texan so I remain as I was before learning of his endorsement of Trump: Not a Texan fan. Not a Belichik fan.

(99,710 posts)Ive spoken on this before and I probably will again. Right now Im just trying to formulate thoughts. Its still early and Im still sick to my stomach. Not basically because the Republicans won or anything, but the disgusting tenor and tone and all the comments that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, and I live in that country where half the country ignored all that to elect someone. Thats the scariest part of the whole thing to me.
Its got nothing to do with the environment and Obamacare and all that other stuff. We live in a country that ignored all those values that we would hold our kids accountable for. Theyd be grounded for years if they acted and said the things that have been said in that campaign by Donald Trump. I look at the evangelicals and I wonder, Those values dont mean anything to them?
All those values to me are more important than anybodys skill in business or anything else because it tells who we are and how we want to live and what kind of people we are. Thats why I have great respect for people like Lindsey Graham and John McCain, John Kasich, who I disagree with on a lot of political things, but they had enough fiber and respect for humanity and tolerance for all groups to say what they said about the man.
I get it, of course we want him to be successful. Were all gonna say that. Everybody wants him to be successful. Its our country. We dont want it to go down the drain. Any reasonable person would come to that conclusion, but that does not take away the fact that he used that fear-mongering and all the comments from day one. The race baiting with trying to make Barack Obama, our first black president, illegitimate. It leaves me wondering where Ive been living and with whom Im living.
The fact that people can just gloss that over and start talking about the transition team, and were all gonna be Kumbaya now and try to make the country good without talking about about any of those things. Now we see that hes already backing off on immigration and Obamacare and other things, so was it a big fake? Which makes you feel even more disgusting and cynical that somebody would use that to get the base that fired up to get elected.

(7,300 posts)Great example! I moved to San Antonio in 1978 and Pop was just another assistant coach at the time. I never watch the NBA anymore except I will watch a Spurs' game because the players reflect Pop's character and values. Now, he owns San Antonio!
Both my children were born in Texas and one passed there. I got married and divorced there. I joined the Army in San Antonio and separated in El Paso. I miss Blue Texas and despise Red Texas where even Austin has GOPee representatives.
No Texas related thread should exist without a tip of the hat to Molly Ivans and Anne Richards, imho. They represented the very best Texas had (Still might?) to offer.

(99,710 posts)I see my thread is turning into a bit of whataboutism.
All I know is Bill Belichek wrote a freaking love letter to Trump.
BTW, did you know Popps hired the first female assistant coach in the NBA?

(7,300 posts)It's so much more fun to hate it even while it's unfair to Texas.
I hate Belichik but respect his coaching abilities. What pissed me off about the Pats cheating was they don't need to do it but Belichik is just a dick so it fits that he'd fellatio Herr Drumpf. Still won't be rooting for the Texans but I will root for a tie!

"Four years ago, I found 11 professional sports owners who donated money to Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Only one of those same those 11 also has given to Trump in 2016: Houston Texans owner and Republican super donor Bob McNair ($254,600)."

That letter is unbelievable. "You have to help with an unbelievable slanted and negative media and have come out beautifully."

(99,710 posts)This letter was written in November of this year after Trump made his racism, bigotry, xenophobia, nativism, ableism, and treason manifest:
Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have to help with an unbelievable slanted and negative media and have come out beautifully. You have proven to be the ultimate competitor fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you for the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrows election, the results will give the opportunity to make America great again.
Best wishes for great results tomorrow,

(3,148 posts)Then there are the New England Patriots: Trump is friends with owner Robert Kraft, got former Pats defensive lineman Fred Smerlas to help raise money in August and counted Matt Light among attendees at a Massachusetts fundraiser on the same swing. And of course there is the quarterback, Trumps golfing partner who kept a MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN hat in his locker and whose support the candidate credits with making an incredible difference in a primary victory. Tom Brady is a great friend of mine, Trump told the New York Times. He's a winner and he likes winners.

If it was a normal Republican there would have been no controversy.
As for Brady I can take him or leave him.
