Climate Change Hostility Makes Crucial New Ice Breaker Replacement Unlikely.

Only Large US Ice Breaker/Polar Star Needs Replacing. Scott Station Cannot Survive Without It.

National Geographic just showed a special on scientific research scientists doing research out of Scott Station in Antarctica on McMurdo Sound. Part of it featured the USS Polar Star icebreaker. The ship is at least 40 years old and needs to be replaced with a modern larger ship. Without it breaking a channel to the Antarctic station supply ships cannot reach it to supply the station for the winter.

The ship has older electronics and systems and has constant breakdowns. It takes at least a week to clear a channel through 7 foot thick ice.

Antarctica is where a lot of CRUCIAL CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENCE IS DONE. Scientists are seeing big changes.
