Trump-Lewis feud could be harbinger of new round of hyper-partisanship

By Abby Phillip January 14 at 8:39 PM

A public feud between Donald Trump and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) seemed to jettison any lingering hopes that the inauguration would temporarily ease partisanship in Washington and instead threatened to widen the rift between the two parties.

Lewis’s assertion that Trump is not a “legitimate president” and his announcement that he would skip Friday’s inaugural ceremony prompted the president-elect to sharply criticize the civil rights leader Saturday morning.

“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results,” Trump wrote in two tweets. “All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad!”

Late Saturday evening, Trump continued to hammer Lewis in a third tweet. “Congressman John Lewis should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities of the U.S. I can use all the help I can get!” Trump wrote.

and even necessary. They need to experience the other side of their partisan war. Maybe then, after Trump/Pence, we can agree to return to governing this country as it should be.

From our standpoint, we are forced to block everything because everything they are going to do is harmful to the country and done only to benefit their wealthy plutocratic benefactors.

At the root of all of this is how we do our campaign finance. Any reform short of publicly funded elections will still allow the plutocrats to control our government through their ability to bribe our representatives. We cannot even call them our representatives (with some exceptions in blue states) because they represent their Donors instead of their constituents.

We will never have real legislation to address the major issues of our day, such as Climate Change, immigration reform, true equality for women and LGBT, criminal justice reform, ... as long as special interests are allowed to control our legislators. We have corporate groups like ALEC openly writing legislation which their members pass in states and in D.C.

We need the people who are fighting for these various causes to come together to help in the fight to stop the purchasing of our representatives! It is the best interests of all of these various groups to demand and work together to achieve Publicly Funded Elections! In order to pass something like this we must start with candidates who refuse to be bought by anyone except us. We will have to open our pocketbooks to give them the support they need to win. We need to go after people like Kris Kobach and his "Cross Check" and anyone else who is restricting the right to vote! We need to assure that our votes are safe and counted. We need to let the media know that we will not tolerate their election manipulations such as all of the free media given to Trump. We know who owns ABC,CBS, NBC..., it is these same plutocrats who use their media platform to get what they want. When the dust settles we need to bust up the 6 media oligarchs!!!
